Rolex is BIGGER than I thought - I was shocked!

Rolex makes up over 28% of the ENTIRE Swiss watch industry. And they are HUGE compared to Omega and Tudor.

I like Rolex products, but I literally can't be bothered with their AD nightmare! I went into my local AD and they had 2 guys on the door asking people questions about what they were looking for etc. They basically turned me away. There was no offer of a waiting list or any optimism at all. They were just really negative and slightly condescending. I mean, what's that all about? When a brand has such snobbery as to turn me away at the door, I get a bit prickly about that. I'd buy a Rolex if it was as simple as buying a Breitling or an Oris but other than that, I'm not interested in playing any games.

I think another reason why people hate when Rolex is mentioned as you were saying is because of the connotations with that brand. Rolex is now associated with the “investment” side of watches and people buying them as part of a stock portfolio and hoarding it rather than wearing it. Therefore talk surrounding Rolex feels less and less like people enjoying a hobby and more and more like conversations around wealth and prestige

Very surprising. I always knew Rolex earned more than Omega every year, but I was under the impression that Omega made far more watches. If Rolex really is making more watches than Omega, it makes you wonder about the whole Rolex “scarcity” issue. Like you said, maybe they’re just going to the wrong people

I might have been responsible for 5% of your views on the Seaq Panorama Date. It helped me decide to get one for myself. What an awesome watch!

Adrian, I think you're spot on. Rolex, like it or not, are the unofficial "gold standard" in watchmaking. The funny thing is that being a charitable trust, they aren't required to follow the same guidelines of transparency, as other brands within the industry, and as such, many believe that they actually underreport their production figures. Just speculation, but just imagine. Speaking for myself alone, I've followed you over the years, not just because of the quality of your productions, but more so your character and personality. I think that a great many of us would say the same. Here's wishing you all the best, Adrian. Cheers...

Thanks for another great video Adrian! I’m a diehard Rolex fanboy but also would call myself an Omega/Tissot/Nomos/JLC fanboy too. They do make a great product, but sure do hate the AD games and having to go grey market to actually put one on your wrist. Thanks for the honesty of the mixed emotions, it rings true for many of us I suspect. And I also think people would watch your videos because of that content honesty and integrity if “R” wasn’t in the title 😊

Adrian broke the fourth wall in this video. You analyzed Rolex as a whole, Rolex's effect on AD's, and even Rolex's effect on YT videos. Well done, very well done.

My only real "problem" with Rolex has nothing to do with them or the watches, it's entirely the fault of people's focus on that brand recognition. At least online you constantly see questions like "Why would you spend so much on <other brand>? Nobody will know what it is or how expensive it is." It doesn't deter me from the watches but seeing that take so often does sort of sour the name in my mind and make me think of it more as a fashion brand or a status symbol than the legitimate watch maker that they are.

Someone I know purchased a URL with the word "Rolex" in it.
From what I was told, in less than 2 weeks the threatening cease & desist emails started showing up.
The Rolex lawyers demanded the url ownership be turned over to Rolex ASAP.
Said person offered as a settlement to turn over the URL to the lawyers for the opportunity to purchase a SS Daytona from a local AD.
The lawyers said no. True story.

I bought my first Rolex, a 5513 Submariner, in 1968 and have been collecting watches including Rolex ever since . I'm definitely a unabashed Rolex owner. People can say what they will about Rolex, but there's always at least 2 Rolex's in my rotation always . Great product, period.

I have been a Rolex fan since I was 9 years old and saw my first advertisement in the Robb Report in the 80's. Not sure why I was drawn in at that age becasue there was not any watch enthusiasts in the family but it is what it was, love was born. Got my first one in my 20's and had many of them since. As I have gotten older the uniqueness of a Panerai, sophistication of an IWC or the history of a Zenith has captured me. Will always love my Rolex's, but sometimes their power in the market makes it that much less special when you want something different!

Glad you made this. A lot of people who have recently gotten into watches will consume the usual “Brand X DESTROYS Rolex” click-baity videos and be convinced that Rolex watches are poor choices. Yet the strength of Rolex is crucial to keeping Brand X (and most of the luxury watch industry) afloat.

I think we’re still all the same……… you want a Rolex, you can’t have a Rolex, you want a Rolex even more!
Excellent product, marketing genius !
Great content again Adrian 👍

When I was a young collector, Rolex was known to me as a brand that made beautiful, classic, elegant watches. Now Rolex is known to my children as a brand that they don't bother with as they are unattainable. Rolex have to be very careful in their marketing and distribution in the next few years as I have grown up with Rolex being a great brand, but it might not be the case for the next generation of collectors.

When I was in the Middle East with the Army everyone I came across know what a Rolex was, even if they were a goat herder in some small village they knew Rolex was an expensive watch. No one knew what Breitling or Tag was. That should tell you a lot.

Well done as always. 40 years ago I thought that Rolex was the epitome of success and the best watch out there. It's taken a long time to show me that it doesn't matter what watch you wear and there are better watches than Rolex to admire.

Great video. Agree with comments. I’m a fan of Rolex. Respect the quality and appeal of the products they produce across a number of their ranges. I have a good decent AD. I get demand exceeds supply, and I get the Rolex model works for Rolex, works for the AD, and (controversial comment) works for other watch brands as people seek alternatives and build up purchase history. My only frustration is the inability to get something I truly love more quickly!

Your channel really change my life, the first Rolex I bought is a Rolex Explorer 214270 Mark II LOL. Love the watch, simple yet elegant.
