So happy we had the opportunity to meet Patrick at Elizabeth’s Barber Shop in Saint Paul, Minnesota! This traditional barbershop is located in the neighborhood Patrick grew up in and has now been serving the local community a little over a year.

Yet the service and shop already have the atmosphere of a fine old school barbershop establishment. The kind of shop that has been around for generations.

It’s a beautiful space in a 1920s building that still retains the original tin ceiling tiles and exposed brick wall. It took around 9 months for the build out of the barbershop, and each piece in the shop has a story.

The workstations handmade in Holland. The antique cash register. The walls adorned with vintage industry posters, local history, and family photos that includes his mother as a young child.

Patrick named his shop after his mom. He says, “To have my mom be able to drive down the street she lived on her whole life and see a business named after her, I’ve already won because of that.”

For Patrick, barbering saved his life. He says, "It gave me a purpose. I am sober almost six years. I always tell people when I was drinking and doing things I probably shouldn’t have been doing, I took a lot of peace out of the world. Barbering allowed me an opportunity to try to put some peace back in the world, one person at a time.”
