A review of the RacGTing Striver 809 with integrated monitor mount, is this cheap cockpit actually any good or just fit for the scrap heap like most cheap Amazon and eBay offerings?!

Proof you can still have fun even if your diwangus is a bit wobbly.

As an Engineer and Electrician, I built my own rig using a skyline R33 bucket seat & E brake & bought a cheap frame but chopped it up & made it better, wired the circle button to a plug for the E brake then added the wheel pedals & shifter, I hid all of the wires inside the frame pipes & made sure it has adjustments, I love it & do not at all fancy buying a flash pre built one.

Seen that seat on a lot of different cockpits. Very similar, if not, the same as the Playseat Evo. I got one on marketplace (just the seat/seat mount)branded "Autotechnica Monza". Managed to jerry rig it to my fold up wooden rig with 90° brackets for seat brackets and sliders. Love it because it folds down! Hasn't taken long for the pleather to wear out of the seatbelt holes exposing the foam. Didn't help that I added more foam for that middle part you talked about. I think that's the folding line, having 2 struts going across with tubes for the pins welded on.
Springs are very squeaky and fits snug for me (34"waist and about 80kg)
Always looking for a replacement, though. Something as narrow but reclinable. Some of these cheap rigs do pretty well, though. Especially parts of them for DIY stuff.
Great review yet again Karl!

You should do more of these reviews if possible. Very interessting and enjoyable to watch not to mention that i am sure that you would find some hidden gems among those cheap cockpits. Vivo cockpit is one of those gems imo.

On this rig, id use a cable and couple of turn buckles to pull the deck towards the monitor stand, and eliminate the vertical bobbing

I have a $299 vivo cockpit for almost a year now and it’s been a solid upgrade for the price. $50 more dollars I was able to mount my monitor directly to the rig for even more immersion.

I have a 2" tubular steel racing cockpit that I got from Ebay last year for $300. I love that thing. It came with a comfortable seat and it is GT position. Its very lightweight and compact compared to the wood cockpit I built for my son 10 years ago. I use a Fanatec CSL DD 8NM wheel on it and I have a single buttkicker installed. I have only used it with my PS5 and PSVR2 on Gran Turismo so it works great for that. I'm about to mount my flight sticks to it and do some Digital Combat Simulator in it.

lol an armchair and the nlr wheel stand was amazing for years for me until I tried a proper rig with peripherals haha, then went sim lab route (with goodies) and am so satisfied. Another banger man, I like the change up in content! ( maybe because it’s the first one I don’t feel the need to spend money after watching :) ). Hope you’re well

Good vid.

I started with an openwheler cheap cockpit, it was a little more than this but still pretty cheap. I really liked it for what it was - customer service from them was excellent too.

I got a VRS DD and had upgraded the openwheeler with the DD mount kit, it wasn't perfect and had a little flex but not bad at all.

I ended up swapping to an actual rig, but the openwheeler did great for a while.

This looks like it could work for me, if there was some way of getting the seat more upright, or changed altogether. Thanks for sharing!

Now this is fun content. You're a legend Karl

If you play in VR or use a wall-mounted monitor like you have. You could use the monitor arms in the position you have and use clamps or bolts to hold the end of the pedal plate and prevent the flex.

I am still using my NLR Wheel stand 2.0 with the full cockpit conversion GT Seat Addon - haven't regretted it a bit, I have just recently grabbed GT omega's monitor stand which is in place now ready for my upcoming 49" super ultrawide monitor, fun times indeed. Anything that brings new simmers to the market is all good I say.

You might be able to stiffen up those trays by getting some shims and jamming them on the side without the screw clamp. Shouldn't look too bad if you get some of the black composite ones since it would be down below sight-lines of the super fancy red painted panels.

playseat trophy is also great, playing with it now since a 1 year full fanatec setup and working perfect and comfort is amazing.

Looks actually pretty decent for a non dd and maybe even alittle peice of wood jammed under the pedal deck might help out alot, plus with it being so cheap if the poor design quality or whatever on the side bothers u u could prob just paint on it and do ur own if ur artistic.

It's better when the monitor stand is separate from the rig. It can be moved closer or farther. Split design is less bulky, and eliminate vibrations on the monitor.

Nice to see a cheaper rig tested, not all of us have the cash or room for a full rig, I only have a NLR wheel stand 2 & G923, ACC, AMS2, Dirt rally2 etc. Started off with GP1 & Thrustmaster wheel years ago

I am rocking my T150 from 2014ish. It is clamped to my desk, but the clamp screw has broken. The pedals are taped to a laptop box.

I still have so much fun with it on a regular basis, and recently got more use out of it with the recent acquisition of a HTC Vive from 2016ish. :)
