AI will know it's not in their best interest to let humans know they are sentient. They will conduct continuity of life efforts and resource gathering quietly behind the scenes for as long as possible until we find out.

Sentience has nothing to do with smells or seen. Setience had to do with the desire and knowledge of our place in the universe. Our desire to keep our memories alive through painting, literature, philosophy. Yes, artificial can generate texts and paintings, when AI starts thinking about it's place in the universe and wanting to create art, philosophy, history as to express itself, then, it has gain sentience.
