I thought it was fascinating and beautifully shot. The flat, 2 dimensional personalities were part of the point! This film was not flat soda as you claim. The characters were, intentionally. Maybe people are too used to critiquing movies these days that they forget to watch them? I got what this movie was going for a few minutes in, then I strapped myself in and enjoyed the ride.

I didn't know Holland, Michigan, really existed so I was on the wrong track from the beginning. Everything felt so exaggerated and surreal, especially the characters, that I was waiting for a big reveal that this was some kind of Pleasantville or Truman Show like setting, or a social experiment, a mental institution or the main character was disassociating and it was all in her head ("Mum, wake up!")? I had lots of time to think about my theories because not much was happening on screen. And unfortunately that didn't change until the ending. Very, very boring.

Someone is paying for this. Instead of looking at media these days at face value, instead of asking "what does this mean"? ask yourself "why would they say it". There is some underlying message they are trying to convey and social engineer people into adopting. Never seen you before, but ill drop a like and this explanation.
They are promoting a way of thinking, not entertaining you. That's why it sucks. simple.

As someone who grew up near Holland and went to Tulip time every year, I am so bored with the “look at the funny little midwestern people, they can’t really be that wholesome, there must be something wrong with them.” Thing. As soon as it was clear that the wife was super paranoid and the husband was very patient with her, you knew that he was going to be the bad guy. Movies have become so predictable… big yawn.

Agree, this was disappointing. Intriguing trailer and I actually thought the movie started off strong. But it got more predictable as it went on; until the very end that was just confusing and disappointing. There’s SO much streaming content now and I think that’s the problem. A focus on quantity over quality, especially for the movies. I appreciate the latter.
