How to Fix Image Pixelation Problem in Scratch

This a solution to scratch annoyingly downgrading the quality of imported images, with the additional benefit of converting the image into vector shapes.

Or, you can just scale down the image to fit within 480x360 in a program outside of scratch, and then when you put it back into scratch, it'll be fixed.

this came up on my home page and saw it for fun since it was so short. Honestly very useful for the future even though I didn't even search for it. Also, +10 points for the music and sound effects. 😂😂

Actually, there is a thing in scratch addons called "HD upload" which uploads any image at full resolution

Or you can just use Turbowarp, or scratch addons, and just have it auto vectored

This is not the correct solution. This introduces unnecessary color banding, which is fixed by using interpolation instead of vectorization. This might not be fully possible, but you can resize the image in an image editor that uses interpolation, so that it doesn't have sharp pixels.
You could also resize it in a vector image editor, by importing the image and scaling it down to fit.

I don't know when the website changed, but now it costs money to download your images. It used to be free, but not anymore.

There's one issue with this.
I tried to insert a sprite sheet of Luigi from Mario 3. It came out even more pixelated than it was originally. So I tried to vectorize it.

And it came out terribly

So don't vectorize pixel art

By using Scratch Addons' HD Upload addon, it embeds the image into a vector image (which doesn't lose its quality). Therefore, the image will be shown in its original quality. The solution you showed here, while sufficient for graphics, is not suitable for pictures because it only uses limited colors. I wouldn't really recommend using this solution, but if it works for you then go for it lol
