The first life and irreducible complexity with Stephen Meyer

Irreducible complexity is the argument that certain biological systems cannot have evolved by successive small modifications to pre-existing functional systems through natural selection because no less complex system would function. Sounds easy enough, right? But with that definition in mind, how many systems inside a living thing can be described as irreducibly complex? And how do we get the information necessary to build a simple one-celled organism? As Dr. Stephen Meyer explains during a recent episode of the HOPE One Live Show, the answers to these questions will lead us back to the origin of life. Watch and learn!

Literally as I’m having a debate with someone on YouTube about this 😂 keep it up I love science.

"How many systems are inside a living thing that could be considered irreducibly complex?" "How many different systems in a living thing would be irreducibly complex? or could be or appear to be?" I would say that DNA, RNA and all the biological nano machinery working inside and outside the cells are collectively irreducibly complex because you need all of them at the same time in order to have life or even for them to continue to exist and continue on.

Listening to this makes me want to study molecular biology. Even more so, vit proves how awesome The Lord is.

One of the Pillars of my reaffirmation was Stephen Meyer, when I decided to confront my faith with false science, he taught me the lies and the "scientific" ignorance about the origin of the Universe and the World. Today thanks to him I immersed myself in my faith and in theology and today I am a Catholic, part of the church that Christ founded.

I’ve been a Christian all my life (Dad is a pastor) and also very interested in learning about the world God gave us (curious, I guess you could say). I am just starting to learn the arguments and evidence around irreducible complexity.

Some background comments leading to questions I have from this short talk:
1. I’ve always thought that since God would be all powerful, he could tune the universal constants and preconditions *just right* so that *through evolution* he could create all life we see today, and that would just be even *stronger proof* that He exists and is all powerful.
2. It seems there is the supposition here that there is *no way* these irreducibly complex systems could have evolved.

Questions:
1. Since God is truly all knowing and all powerful, couldn’t he have found a way to create these irreducibly complex systems through evolution? Or do you see no logical possibility for these to have arisen from their constituent components, hence the phrase irreducibly complex?
2. If we see “no way” for something to happen, how can me ensure we aren’t just falling prey to the “God of the Gaps” fallacy? Ultimately I hope we can ask Him how He did this once we are able to meet face to Face.

I’m pretty young (25) so I will have a long time to keep learning and discovering, but am hoping someone else may be able to speak to these questions who has already thought this through a bit more than me and understands the evidence better.

Peace!

Yes, I loved his book “The Return of the God Hypothesis”. So good and helpful. Thank you!

Love to you Frank for talking to Stephen here. You must also look into Michal Behe.

Amazing what happens when you're not humble enough to admit you don't know.

Isn't it amazing that almost all the atheists in the comment section seems to have more "in-depth" knowledge about what's being discussed than Dr. Meyer 🤣🤣🤣?

Atheistic scientists are open to all possibilities despite the shortcomings except the one possibility that has no shortcomings.

I love these guys. Showcasing creationist scientists gives us a chance to see them in action. Good job CE

Totally awesome and mind blowing. What’s even more fascinating is the length and depth atheists will go to not acknowledge God.

I think it is notable that just through observation Darwin understood how organisms adapt to their environment by micro steps, the variation of finches' beaks, and deviations within the same species. However, one kind of animal transforms into a different animal, as a mouse evolving into a duck is as reliable as dancing on ice.

Creating even a short protein molecule by random chance is so fantastically improbable as to be be virtually impossible. And the complexity only increases from there at every step. Random, undirected, chance chemical combinations can never explain the origin of life.

Listening to Dr. Stephen Meyer speak has deeply motivated me to quit studying altogether and go back to my day labor job 😂

Dr. Meyer’s doctorate is in History and Philosophy of Science. Why not interview a doctor of Biology who would be better qualified to discuss the origins of life?
