The Dunning-Kruger Effect.

Strange illusions shape Trumps views. In trying to protect America, he may unleash a killer that already claims 200,000 lives each year.

This bias helps explain why Trump has left the Paris Climate Agreement, with potentially disastrous implications for climate change.

Voiced by Stephen Fry.

Why do people believe Trump? And why is he so confident, even when demonstrably wrong?

Cognitive biases:

Health and economic benefits of reduced air pollution (the EPA Clean Air Act):

Jonathan Levy, a professor of environmental health at Boston University:
“A public-health burden of this magnitude clearly requires significant policy attention... We have certainly invested significant societal resources to address far smaller impacts on public health.”

Mark Twain said it well when he commented "The problem with the world today is that intelligent people are full of doubt, and idiots are full of confidence."

An honest person asks to be corrected about a wrong assumption.
An idiot is offended by being corrected about a wrong assumption.

The greatest enemy of knowledge is not ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge.

That last sentence was a quote by Stephen Hawking:

When arguing with a fool, first make sure the other person isn't doing the same thing.

Absolutely. I noticed years ago in college that the professors who taught me the most were the brightest and because they understood their subject so well, the best in explaining their subject matter. For the most part, the least helpful and knowledgeable teachers came across as pompous, talked "down" to their students and were the most difficult to understand.

Me watching this in 2020: 😳

Humans in general are so egotistical. Even the entire combined knowledge of the human race is like a single grain of sand compared to all the grains of sand on all the deserts and all the oceans on Earth. We know next to nothing.
These problems seem to stem from some gross misconceptions society makes. First off, strength is not fear. So a person who is say, a racist, is not strong, because everything about *being a racist is based on fears, * regardless of whether or not those fears are even valid. Everyone has feelings, so those who are *afraid to express how they feel* are in fact, weak, not strong.
Being humble is a sign of wisdom, whereas being cocky is sure sign of a stunted intellect. And without wisdom, intelligence is nothing more than memory. Last but not least, being cocky is the opposite of being confident. A confident person doesn't feel any _need_ to express how much better they are to others, and more importantly, they are also wise enough to know that everyone has strengths and weaknesses just like they do. Confidence is gained from accepting that no one is perfect, because until one does accept that simple fact, they are constantly trying to cover up their imperfections. This is not only distracting from the learning process in a major way, it leads to biases based on those fears.

whilst training in MMA my teacher basically said: "people in their second year are the most dangerous. not to anyone else, but always to themselves. for a beginner feels he knows nothing, a master understands he still knows little, but a blue belt will always think he can take the bar fight"

Sadly, the people who need to see this video the most are the least curious and so least likely to tap it.

Wow, I cannot believe the comments I read here. Why in the world do you not care about the environment ? Why would you stand behind everything that Trump says without questioning it at all ? Oh wait, I think it is explained perfectly well in the video. I rest my case!

I'm not sure about Trump, but the Dunning-Kruger effect perfectly explains the flat earth "movement".
