Secret London - Three Mills History Walk at Dusk - Alternative East London in 4K - Those Who Wander
Показать описание
Enjoy this alternative secret London walk at dusk. This rarely seen part of East London makes for a calm and relaxing walk, especially during the UK Covid lockdown.
The walk begins along the River Lea - with lots of longboats and moorhens passing through and exploring the place. Early on in the walk you will encounter the statue 'Reaching Out' by sculptor Thomas J Price. This is one of the very few statues in the UK of a black woman. In the author's own words: "I want this sculpture to be an opportunity for people to connect emotionally with an image of someone they might not have noticed before... It is also about people being able to recognise themselves, or people they know.' Another statue on the walk - 'Helping Hands' by Alec Peeve - commemorates four tragic deaths in an industrial accident one hundred and sixteen years ago at Nicholson’s Gin Distillery.
This area covered in the walk has been an industrial, working area for several centuries. There are actually mentions of the Three Mills acquired by Stratford Langthorne Abbey from the year 1135. Once you cross over the first little bridge you will see the spectacular Three Mills Island with the world’s biggest tidal mill.
Enjoy the walk and see you very soon!
