Speed masterclass: how to improve your speed like Kylian Mbappe. In today's video, we're talking to Carsten Effertz from Tanner Speed, who shares one of the secrets behind Mbappe's mindblowing speed: his step frequency - or, the fact that he takes A LOT of long, fast steps. And that's something you can use to improve your speed, too, so in today's video, Carsten will teach JayMike, and you, how to train your step frequency to ultimate improve your speed and become faster.

Just came across this video. Haven’t watched a Unisport video since I went off to university in 2020, which was also the year I played my last football match.

I’d been watching Unisport since 2013 when Jay was speaking Danish in videos, still went by Jakob Michaelsen, and Joltter used entire containers of gel in his hair. I even remember when PWG was making freestyle videos.

I’m old now and my knees will never recover from my years of playing, but seeing that Jay Mike seems to have not aged a single day after 10 years brings a smile.

Back home I still have my beat-up Fall 2014 Hyper Turquoise Magista Obra with my name and French flag on them, which I bought from Unisport in January 2015.

Please make a video on mind calmness, it is one of the major problems I see in myself and as well as many other players. What basicially happens is that when I play with my friends or someone I know very well, I play as best as i can but when I'm in a match, my confidence or focus just goes down. Please make a solution video on this, it will help not only me but a lot of people. BTW love your videos❤

Another more common word from the runner/sprinter world is cadence. I ask my players to pay attention to Messi when he has the ball. His cadence is crazy at full speed.

the main reason mbappé can reach such a frequency is closing his knee the sole of his foot in a horizontal position, you can place a cup of coffee on the sole...
this is a typical athletism technique. Only useful to get continuously fast. Only useful in a one to one situation with a defender line.
In all other situation it is useless, defenders will block your way to the goal forcing you to slow down.
That is the tactical reason why mbappé fails in so many games. The defenders do not let him in a one to one situation.

You can see at 2:16 that the single defendant, leaves his foot's sole facing rearward, which compels him to pull his leg while the foot's forces continue to draw him backward.
Mbappé, while dribbling still manages to close his knee, making the sole of his foot at the back facing up.
He does not have to pull his backfoot forward, because it falls down on his own, when the hip is rotating creating a swing moment.
Exercising this technique will give you a very clear perception of coordination and how easy it makes you build up speed...
The most important is to stay relax, let the movements flow without getting tense...

The useful step ladder for short acceleration is extremely counterproductive for maximum speed, as it teaches you NOT to lift your foot and close your knee
