Dermatologist Dr Dray reacts to Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis sharing their bathing habits on Dax Shephard podcast Armchair expert. Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have a different approach when it comes to bathing and bathing their kids. How often do you need to shower and bathe? Do you need to shower daily? Can you wash your face with just water? I answer these questions and more in today's video.

I feel like people in the comments either haven't watched the video or totally missed the point. It's not about not showering, it's about not using soap or cleanser on every single bit of your body every single day. Dr. Dray explains it as clearly and to the point as it can get, and people are still missing it.

As an eczema sufferer learning that you don't have to use soap every day has been a life changer. My patches have decreased in both size and frequency exponentially.

For me there is no better feeling than being clean, so bath/shower time is a treat.

I shower according to how gross I get. If I do a hard workout, go to the beach/for a hike, or otherwise get gross, showering is necessary. If my day only consists of laundry, groceries, and Netflix, skipping a day is fine

“Sweat is water soluble.” Mind-blowing! Thank you, Dr. Dray!

It's not "one rule fits all". It depends on a person's location, activity, environment and of course skin condition and needs. [Edit: I never said that's something dr. Drey said. I was commenting on the subject. Some people are too quick to jump to conclusions...]

Climate and weather play a big factor on how often you need to bathe/shower.

As a vet tech, I'm working with animals all day, including goats, horses, pigs, and chickens as well as cats and dogs so a nighty shower with soap and water is a must. And sometimes a morning shower too just to help wake up because I work such long hours. This works for me. Happy Wednesday, Dr Dray! Hope you have a nice evening. 💝

I wash my whole body with soap every day because i’m the subway in Paris 2 times a day…it’s gross here !! I’ve tested all kinds of soaps, oil cleanser…and my favorite is the Dove bar soap. It’s cheap and very gentle.

Does nobody actually exercise enough to sweat? Because this seems ridiculous to me. It is summer. Every part of me sweats when I exercise. If I didn't wash- with a mild liquid soap- I would stink and have heat rash.

I live in the Caribbean and it’s so hot dusty all the time so I was taught to bathe at least once a day. It’s the norm to bathe about two times a day here (morning & night; or before you leave the house!) Adjusting to just washing just the visibly soiled areas and skin folds is a little challenging. At this point its a habit, once you get into the shower you wash everything lol However I have been taking all the relevant advice from Dr. Dray and my skin is the best its ever been 🧼

This was interesting, I was born into a large family, and we had no hot water. So I as a child would boil a kettle pour into a basin and wash only important areas. I never smelled I never used deodorant until I became a teenager. Then when I was fifteen we moved to Australia and our parents rented a house with a bathroom, and I loved to shower everyday.
Now I am older I have developed psoriasis and it burns badly, so luckily I found dr. Dray I shower ever other day as the water burns my skin. I only wash the areas I need too and I am in and out in two minutes. My skin is great I don’t use a lot of products, sunscreen in the morning, and a little
Retinal at night. I am always getting compliments on how good my skin looks. Thanks Dr. Dray you have been a tremendous help to me.x

I love that you say, "As we get wiser", instead of "as we get older".

Maybe it depends on the weather we live. If its hot and humid nothing like a good shower or bath.

I know we are speaking water and soap here, but airing the private parts for a certain length of time (usually overnight) is a good idea for keeping the skin (crotch area) healthy (minus babies). Also, loose clothing is best, and underwear that is made from materials that allow the crotch to breathe, and do not keep moisture trapped next to skin is essential. Also, ditch the Bubble Bath—awful stuff!

My three kids are now adults, but my mother always said not to bath my babies everyday. “Make sure the diaper area is clean and use a wet washcloth on the face and neck to wipe away milk/food and sweat.” The only time I bathed my kids everyday was in the summer to wash off sunscreen, chlorine or salt water, or dirt from playing in the yard. I suffer from eczema and understand the problem with excessive water exposure to the skin. My middle guy started life and still battles with eczema, so I was very aware of protecting his skin by not bathing him everyday as a child and using Eucerin cream. Just as Dr. Dray advises, the kids didn’t start showering everyday till they started puberty. That’s when kids start to stink. 😵‍💫

When i was in Singapore, i shower everyday. When I was in Seoul, I shower 3x a week. The weather and level of sweat dictates the need for me to bathe

I say soap and water all over. Just because you're not "visibly" soiled doesn't mean you're not soiled. We touch our bodies unconsciously sometimes, and our hands are touching so much, more especially when we go out in public. Our skin produces oil which just makes daily grime adhere to the skin. Rinsing in water alone will never do it for me. If I feel overly dry, I know how to apply moisturizer--to my face _and_ to my body.
