Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis’ relationship with Scientology | 60 Minutes Australia

One-time sitcom actor and well-known devotee of Scientology, Danny Masterson, is now also a convicted rapist. Last week he was jailed for 30 years for drugging and sexually assaulting two women in 2003. Masterson’s trial attracted enormous attention, not only because of his fame and violent crimes. The Church of Scientology was also condemned, accused of going to extraordinary lengths to protect its star recruit from prosecution.

But what’s been revealed since Masterson’s sentencing is causing more controversy. The disgraced actor received substantial support from fellow Hollywood celebrities including Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis. In letters to the judge asking for leniency for Masterson, the married couple described their friend more like a saint than a sinner. They said he was a role model and an exceptional character. Not surprisingly their comments have caused outrage.

For over forty years, 60 Minutes have been telling Australians the world’s greatest stories. Tales that changed history, our nation and our lives. Reporters Liz Hayes, Tom Steinfort, Tara Brown, Nick McKenzie and Amelia Adams look past the headlines because there is always a bigger picture. Sundays are for 60 Minutes.

“This is a criminal organization pretending to be a religion”

Best words ever spoken.

No organization with a rule of “don’t report crimes to police” should be legal

Listen, I dumped my own brother when I found out he was abusing his partner. Not only this, I supported his partner. I never spoke to my brother after that. All other siblings dumped me after this and I haven't spoken to my parents since, as they wanted to support him. Doing the right thing may be hard and there is a cost to it; but it's the right thing to do. I have no Hollywood money but I prefer to do what is right, not what is popular.

Mila is absolutely **fizzing** with anger. Eyebrow flashes, clenching her jaw, lips twitching, carefully monitoring Ashton. Amazing to watch.

"They were intended for the judge to read". Direct quote from Ashton. Coded wording for "we didn't think it would be made public".

I love that 60 mins Australia has it out for the church.

Sorry, kids. The issue isn't with how he conducted himself around adults or friends, the issue is how he conducted himself around vulnerable women when no one else was watching.

Scientology needs to be charged, shut down, and prosecuted. It's a cult not a religion period.

I hope to live to see the end of Scientology, and proper Justice delivered to the perpetrators at the head of the organization.

What’s really outrageous is that it took 20 years for the victims to have justice.

It's possible that these letters outraged the judge as well and he decided to send a strong message to those who need to hear this.

"the letters were meant for the judge" means "we wanted it to be something we do behind the back of the public"

So grateful there are journalists like the both of you. It’s a relief to know there are “good guys” (and gals, Tara :). Keep reporting the truth - this world desperately needs it. 💔💔💔🤙🏼

Tara, PLEASE cover the conspiracy around Maui. Hawaii and the worldwide surf community are hurting terribly.

They didn't think those letters were ever going to see the light of day lmao. They definitely thought that only the judge or jury would read the letters.

Thank you to the victims for having gone through the testimonies, - without you, we would have no light into this. And thank you 60 minutes for the report also.
