Japanese Beetle, Holsinger's Fly Shop

It's the 4th of July Weekend now as I release this video and in my area that means the Japanese Beetles are coming out in full force. The beetles are a favorite of the trout this time of year and the best part about them is it's hard to fish them wrong. One of the best ways to fish this fly is actually to smack it down on the water as it would happen naturally in the wild. Using a beetle is also an excellent way to present a dry dropper technique. My favorite droppers for this time of year are white zebra midges and wet ants.

Materials:

Japanese Beetle Fly

Firehole 419 Size 14

140 Denier Dark Grey Thread

Jan Siman Magic Shrimp Foil Brown

2mm Craft Foam in Black and Yellow

Peacock Herl

Flex Floss Brown
