How I Color My Anime Art ✦ Digital Drawing Tutorial [Clip Studio Paint]

Hey!

Do you know how to make actually good use of colour theory in your digital art?

Here’s the anticipated video about how I choose colours for my anime drawings!

This guide is separated into 3 main parts. I show the basics which are relevant for my personal colouring process and how to apply them. I hope this simplification is easier to understand than a complex colour theory guide.

The more I made content for the video the more I noticed how deep of a topic this actually is. So please keep in mind that this is just my way of understanding colour theory and isn’t meant to be complete. But it’s enough for my current skill.

I hope this provides a foundation to follow my process of colouring. If you have any question please feel free to drop them in the comments!

Color choice tutorial! Have to say I really needed this ahaha. I think maybe I incorporate too much of the outside colors, or I don’t add variation in saturation, but in the end my art just resembles a massive pile of colors ahaha. I thought I understood the theory, but your video really helped me gain a deeper understanding to it! I like how you emphasized the elements that can affect each concept of color, lighting affecting value, mood with saturation… this was really what helped me. Value affecting competition between colors was also very interesting to note! I feel like drawing something to try all these new stuff out :)

This has got to be the most well explained and clear video on context coloring, oh my god. It's rather rare in tutorials for the artist to point out each different type of lighting and shading and for this, I am very thankful that this video covers it!

Dear @kuroshiro this was insanely helpful and you're literally a God-send cuz I was just telling my girlfriend that I don't know how to draw these highlights and shadows and the detailing, looking at some of the anime art out there, and I landed on your video and wow! What a mini nuclear-bomb packed into a 11 minute video! I learnt a LOT! Omg! This is wonderful, the choice of your music and the presentation style, I loved all of it! Thanks a lot and cheers! Keep making more stuff like this! ❤

omg kuro, the way you did that night-time lighting was amazing 🥹 if you need a video idea --- i don't care so much for learning lighting theory (there are irl books for that) but i would love to see how you layered that (how you pick what colors ((saturated? desaturated? gray?)) to use for the shades) and use clip studio features to apply the effects and get just the right shades!! that was amazing!! ❤️❤️

in the video, i wasn't sure if you were erasing a dark blue layer or...?

This is actually the first guide that really helped me so much with coloring! I feel like my coloring for my art is always too loud or too many colors jammed into the one illustration, but this guide really helps so much 😍
