Why The Death Note Would FAIL!

"If you can't win the game... if you can't solve the puzzle... then you're just a loser." -N

In the world of "Death Note", Kira is god- a seemingly omnipotent entity with the ability to decide who dies and how. Only the smartest might even suspect that the killings ultimately tie back to a very dedicated young adult with an otherworldly notebook and a strong sense of justice. The series follows Light Yagami as he puts his genius mind to work, dodging police suspicion and killing off criminals in order to create a perfect world. His actions raise a lot of questions about the true meaning of "justice" and how humans respond to death... But perhaps an even bigger question is "Would he still be able to pull this off in modern society?" Join Tyler at The Imaginary Axis for a journey through culture and recent history to uncover the surprising argument about why even the greatest serial killer from 14 years ago might be a minor nuisance today... and why that should scare you even more.

Fatal flaw in this video: 4chan would take Lights side.

I'll take all of this into consideration, thanks for your help.

4Chan: dedicated enough to track someone down to steal a flag, but won't use said skills to be helpful.

I feel like it would be super easy for Light to counter this actually. Firstly, he has the advantage of his method of killing being supernatural... which means it sounds like a conspiracy theory. That GREATLY limits both the number of people and the type of person who would correctly guess his methods. Secondly, he'd be able to monitor everyone's progress. And thirdly, he'd have an army of supporters who he could organize, and the ability to bombard the internet with alternate theories and misinformation campaigns.

I feel that realistically NO one would believe that you can kill someone by knowing your name

Here’s a spin off story to your theory: what if light uses the dark web to build a cult that worships and protects him?

Knowing 4Chan they'd mug Light, steal the death note, and continue his plan of killing criminals, but would be mailing the death note to each other like a murderous game of hot potato.

Light: (Gets jumped, robbed and killed for his Death Note)

Also Light: (smirks) It's all according to the plan.

4chan users: *tracks down the location of a flag by mapping out the stars, listening to the animals, looking for flying birds or planes and their flight patterns*
me: *loses to level 3 chess bot*

Also if a camera did see him pick up the notebook who would care? "Oh my God that kid picked up a notebook. Therefore he must be the murderer."

This whole theory is holding onto the assumption that Light would have done the same thing in modern times of what he did back then

i don't think people are going to see other people die of heart attacks and think "this has to be a death note."

You’re missing the crucial detail that Light would attempt and almost DEFINITELY succeed in getting himself into one of those Discord servers.

Okay, you’ve modernised the setting. But you haven’t modernised Light.

Light is HIGHLY intelligent. Do you really think he’d be unaware of his searches being monitored?

I don't think the internet would see a series of heart attack victims and think that a high school student was killing them by writing names in a notebook. After all, L deduced that Kira existed and needed a name and a face through classified police information as well as very specific experiments (Lind L. Tailor). However, I do agree that he would eventually be caught because of the internet.

1:43, Just nitpicking here, Light isn't an average student, he is one of the top students in all of Japan.

Light strikes me as the kind of guy who wouldn't be on social media, even before becoming Kira. He was popular because he was smart, athletic, and good looking, but he was never social. He didn't seem to have any friends or any interest in dating before it was a cover for his activities.
And if Google could out him so easily, how the heck do actual terrorists pull off anything? I think that people give the ever watching "Big Brother" too much credit sometimes. There's too much information going around online every second to pinpoint the suspicious activities of one person or small group unless you already have reason to single them out.

But you must also understand that even if Kira appeared in modern day, there will be people who look up to Kira and it’s said that large amounts of the population support Kira in the story due to him stopping criminals and in the 1017 movie even the cops appreciate what Kira is doing. So in all while the internet would stop Kira, the question is would people want to. Would they want to stop something when they are desperate for change as well

Imagine if 4chan got access to the note. Someone would start selling pieces
