I remember working for the government a while ago and having access to the Windows source code for security reasons. If that timeline and the release of your video converged a bit better, I could have had a nice follow-along with the teacher himself.

These are the real questions Dave, can’t wait to see your overview!

How far back in time does the Microsoft source code repository go? Do they have archives going back to the first versions of DOS, Windows, Office? Or even earlier stuff going as far back as Altair BASIC?

They got server 2003 to build, a lot of the more sensitive bits were excluded from the leak so they were struggling with XP. I built it on a dual Pentium III 750mhz machine and it took about 8-9 hours, and about 1 hour on a 4ghz Haswell.

It's great how MS treats source these days, or is starting to anyway. If this was asked 10 years ago I think you would've got a different answer.

It would be sooo nice if Microsoft open-sourced Windows XP. I still use it up to today and there are a few bugs I would like to fix. Sure, I can decompile and recompile stuff but it is just not the same.

Props to respecting an NDA. I hate when people sign an NDA like it means nothing.

Please talk about your workflow, when finding and patching securety bugs.
Did you recreated the event to fix it?

Hell yes my boy Mental Outlaw complied XP from source on YouTube. Check him out for awesome computer science and Linux videos.

now I want to see if the build tools can be replaced by LLVM as a way to produce a better kernel

I really like this loose style you had in this video better. It just more natural.
When you read the scripted text it’s just quite stiff/tight.
I love the things you say and I quite enjoy your humour - I just think you can profit even more from this “raw”/natural style.
The more authentic you can be - the better. At least in my opinion 😊👍

How do I get one of those coffee mugs? Quit teasing us ;)

how would you rework the architecture of Windows security to make it 👍👍

Dave: I want to do X, does this violate my NDA with you?

MS Legal: We don't give legal advice.

Sounds like government. Won't tell you youe plans violate the law, because "that's not my job" but comes down on you once you proceed as planned because it was against the law.

0:49: Not just NDA, but also copyright

Does the NDA now curb your code creativity?

Can you talk about viruses next? Why the OS gets easily compromised.

Can someone explain to me why it would be hard to get source code to compile? I thought that’s what source code was? The “typed” code to a program that you run though a compiler and out spits an executable.

I have seen the code, just educational curiosity but I do have to ask why some of the code is sweet yet other pieces look as if it were a beginners intro class?

Does this mean that you _could_ potentially write code for ReactOS one day?

Also... Why not talk about the NTVDM, and why--even with CPU emulation--there's no 64-bit version?
