My Art and Creativity PODCAST:

Hi there, Liron here!

In today's video I'll teach you some advanced brush control techniques in watercolor. These may seem hard at first, but with practice you'll start getting these.

Here are the two main points:

1. Work in parallel to lines and outlines
2. Learn the width of your brushes and how the pressure you apply influences them.

🎨 MATERIALS I USE 🎨

Paints (all Daniel Smith)
Quinacridone Rose

Brushes

Paper

The 'fresh wash' as you refer to it is EVERYTHING in watercolour; what you are teaching is invaluable if only students realise this. V/good.

Thank you for making this tutorial. I noticed I often make a mess when play in the same area but now I know how to improve it! Thank you again!

This is a great reminder for 'Old Hands' too, so easy to fall into bad habits the more you paint. Well done and demonstrated Liron.

❤ My favorite tutorialist. Why did it take me so long to understand the importance of practicing brush control?

This tutorial is amazing!! I've been searching for this kind of information for weeks, as my visible brush strokes have been sucking my creativity away. But you've given me a lot of techniques to try, and along with the practice exercises from another of your videos, I am super excited to pull out the paints today. It's crazy to me that this information is so hard to find. Not only online, but within the dozen books I've collected over the years. Many Many Thanks!!

Liron, this type of short but to the point type of video is invaluable. I really needed this one. Perhaps by practising those brushstrokes I won't 'overwork' my paintings so much. Thanks ! Tzipora

Thanks for this it was just what I needed I have noticed the intentional way you use your brush on demo videos but it didn't click in my brain as to how this makes such a difference I will watch over again till I have it concrete in my head Thanks again

How come nobody ever told us this? That's why I always say that you're the best teacher. Thank you, Liron! I will stop wobbling and dabbing right now! :)

Using the shoulder to make long lines is far more reliable than trying to use our wrist. So a right handed person goes from left to right using their shoulder and holding the brush further back and a lefty would start from the right usually. Good review Lirón.

Wow, this makes so much sense. I definitely dab carefully when I want to have fresh confident brushstrokes. I'd sacrifice accuracy even for more freshness so I should try to keep your lesson in mind. Thanks!
