I'm currently in the information gathering phase to file my first claim. So for the past 2 months I've just been watching a TON of videos but Clay and Jason provides the most relevent information and have been trying to watch all of their videos. I would agree with the first and second tip but not the third. The process seems simple, #1- Determine your disability by looking in 38CFR, #2 - Get a diagnosis, #3 - Gather medical evidence to support your diagnosis. It seems that the veteran is responsible for all of those steps and the VSO just files it. So why not file it yourself on the VA website. In preparing for the C&P exam, get the DBQ from the VA website so you basically know what happens in the exam.I guess I will see how this plan works out.

My VSO is helpful but way way over loaded with cases. She tries but simply cannot keep up so I've been watching all these videos trying to educate myself.
The Civdiv channel is the most helpful that I have found.
I don't feel like I'm being sold snake or a used car only driven back and forth to church by Grandma lol or I feel like there may be other channels that may beat around the bush and vaguely encourage you to bend the truth just because you are likely under rated on another claim to level it out to get the true overall rating you should have like I've heard some other channels hint at.

Clay gives very helpful information and I feel like there is integrity here to truthfully get fair ratings that you deserve.

I could tell you that one of the best tips that I employed. No one told me about it. I figured it out on my own because I have done similar work in the past regarding organizing files. Basically what I do is when I am submitting any paperwork online to my claim file I always make sure that I name it very clearly and I use one naming convention. So I start with my name and use an underscore then I name the condition then The document its related to underscore a document description underscore and the date such as 111824. when I do this, I am taking into consideration the evaluator that will be looking through my file, and I figure that if I could make all of my documents easy to recognize and see that I would be helping them out. I figure it can’t hurt.
so you’re nutshell, take the time to name the files you are uploading to your claim file so that they are easily identifiable.
it will help the evaluator and it will help you as well. When you go to look through the files that have been uploaded. Because once you upload them online, you can’t edit them revise them delete them or open them. Your only reference is how you named the file before you upload it.

I don’t need no VSO. I started my journey in the beginning of the year at 20% looked through my file and now I am up to 91%. Working through my last four points. Until I am properly rated at 100%.

I totally agree with you. Because I had a bad experience with a bad VSO officer I made a major mistake by not educating myself. She made me feel like I was wasting her time and was deflecting everything back on me. I was so angry I just gave up.

Could we get a walkthrough on associating evidence with our claims? What details should we look at and look for? What details should we document and in what format so that there is no question?

in the l.a. cal. area the vso's take the 1st 15 veterans that come in with all there information but if you are #16 they tell you to come back another day

I just recently finished my first group of clains with a new VSO . I was service connected for 5 conditions. And denied for several. Most I believe will go as seconday claims. Ask everyone you know about a VSO Before you choose one. Have a appointment on Tuesday with a highly recommended VSO.

I can’t even file for intent because they have my name wrong. Someone misspelled my middle name… which is probably no big deal but I refuse to have any records that aren’t in my full legal name

How would I submit a claim for increased urinary frequency due to prescribed hypertension medications? I’m rated 0% for hypertension.

I need to file for PTSD, trying to decide if it's a primary issue or secondary.

The claim is not the problem. It's the wait for them to either approve it or deny it. Shouldn't take over five years to make a decision if there is a Nexus and medical records confirming the claim. Again it's the lazy workers not doing the right thing. Not all of the workers are lazy, but there is a lot like that, unfortunately.

We still fail to address the blatant "racism" in VA claims. The process is undoubtedly troubled and nuanced, but injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere. Please use your influential platform to address "racism" as it applies to VA claims approval versus denials. VA has already acknowledged that it is true. Where is everyone else on this subject?
