How not to OVERHEAD PRESS ❌

How to overhead press ✅

Don’t push the bar too far forward

Don’t lean back to try and get the weight up easier

Don’t do a push press that uses momentum, it’s a different exercise

Push your head back and drive the weight straight up above you. Think of stacking the weight above you, like the penthouse floor if you were the apartment building.

Other notes 📝

- arms just outside shoulder width
- elbows stay tight, they don’t flare out
- feet stay approximately shoulder width, I see a lot of people sanding too narrow which makes the move unstable

The key thing to do is breath in as deep as possible to tighten your core and, as awkward as this sounds, squeeze your ass as much as possible. This is what prevents you from leaning back.

"Bowing up" your chest creates a natural platform for the barbell and moves your hesd out of the way.

Do not freak out that you're stalling here way before your squat/bench/dead; that is normal. OHP recruits less muscles and your shoulders are tiny compared to pecs and posterior chain.

Yeah I’ve been doing the mistake of leaning back too much and I noticed it. So I started all the way back down to a much lower weight and now working on my form with boy overhead and push press
