What a bizarre case, I can understanding him burning his truck but not removing the steering column, I'm a mechanic and it's quite a difficult job and requires a few decent tools. How very intriguing.

I doubt the young man killed himself. I think something occurred while he was waiting for the storage units to open, whether he met someone intentionally or by accident and that person had criminal intentions. It may have been a truck theft gone bad, and he was killed and dumped, then the truck was taken to a remote area to be stripped and it was set on fire after having part(s) removed. I certainly hope that someday the truth comes to light and his family is given the peace they deserve.

I think he was murdered and dumped, and his truck stolen and dumped somewhere else, and burnt out. I don't think this was an act of terminal sadness at all.

Doc, please do an analysis of all the people on YouTube who have solved the case of the 4 killings in Idaho. Specifically addressing what gumball machine they received their forensic degrees from. Thanks!

One of the few cases where im not totally convinced either way. Who would want a steering column From a burned truck and happen to have the tools? Maybe parts were stolen and then the truck was burned?

I'm from Lethbridge, his posters are still up and there's a vigil happening in the upcoming days.

Did I hear correctly that he had 4 phones under his name? That's a lot of phones - I wonder if he was maybe involved with drug dealing gangs or some other criminal activities. Also his comment about being able to make it without schooling if you know the right people etc.

The steering column was missing? You need tools to remove the steering column and time. I cant imagine why someone would drive into the middle of nowhere and stop to remove the steering wheel and then put it somewhere noone could find. It could be to hide evidence? Bullet hole? Deployed airbag? It would be odd to have a deployed airbag on a vehicle that wasnt wrecked. Bullet strikes can set off airbags. The vehice could have been towed to the site and the steering column was removed to make it steerable without the keys in order to get it on a trailer, but if someone killed him in the truck, they would have his dunno this ones weird.

Marshal had wonderful tattoos. Where, if anywhere was the steering column found? I feel suspicious because of the other man who disappeared after setting his vehicle on fire, somewhere in the vicinity. I guess we will pay more attention to that if it happens a 3rd time. Were there tools found which could have been used to remove the steering column? Since Marshal had just been to visit his mother, he might have carried his contacts, toothbrush etc in a backpack. Had he been abducted, perhaps he didn`t even realize he WAS being abducted, and took his back pack with him. People abduct you when you run out of gas, sometimes. He could have picked up a hitch hiker. My speculation is a bit wild I suppose, but I hitch hiked in the 1960`s and people look very innocent (and many are) until they decide to let you freeze to death for no reason at all up in Grant`s Pass in the middle of winter, or such things. This young man had just gotten his car paid for. He cared for his mother. If he planned to kill himself, why not leave a paid for truck for his mother? Just sayin`.

Why would someone want a burnt out steering column from an average car whilst they were hiking? How does one remove a steering column? Are tools required or can it just be taken out? lol!
Even if someone came upon the scene in their car (like the people who rented the cabin) and had tools in their vehicle.... I'd still need to be persuaded as to the reasoning to wanting a burnt out steering column.
Now, if there was a crime that occurred in the front seat near the steering column, I could understand being a little paranoid that there are so many nooks and crannies that even the fire may not destroy every tiny particle of dna or evidence. Perhaps something lodged INTO the steering column that would give way to a crime??
This may be one of the only cases you've done that I'm not in complete agreeance with you. I'm intrigued!

Why didn't he return to his mothers house to spend the night before returning to the storage unit first thing in the morning ? Also, the fact that he was at the storage facility for 2 1/2 hours (6AM ~ 8:30AM). That's a heck of a long time to be hanging out at a storage facility.

I suspect foul play. Storage facilities can be notoriously sketchy. My guess is he drove into the storage facility at 6AM, encountered a bad actor(s), and this other person drove his truck out with Marshall as an unwilling occupant, ultimately driving to the remote location to destroy the evidence and contaminate/confuse the crime scene.

I dunno doc…some of the sketchiest people I’ve ever seen have been in remote areas. I do a lot of wilderness exploring and I’ve come across people on foot with no gear dozens of miles from anything. I’m a pretty big guy and openly carry a pretty big gun so I’ve never had much trouble, but I can say I’ve been deeply spooked by some of these encounters.

I don’t think it makes sense Marshal committed suicide, given what’s known. Why would Marshal travel over 700 miles to a place he’s never been to kill himself? Why would Marshal burn his truck and remove his steering column? Did Marshal even have the tools and knowledge to remove a steering column? Where’s the steering column? It had to be removed from the scene by someone other then Marshal because his truck was disabled or Marshal had another vehicle? Who’s PlayStation and Xbox were at the scene? I’m also not convinced dropping out of school and being secretive is evidence Marshal was suicidal.

I would be convinced there was Foul Play involved because of the previous burned out van incident. Additionally, why would the steering column be missing? That is very suspicious. It could be that somebody was looking for a particular vehicle part and that's the entire reason for the foul play. Also, if he was going to end his own life why would he wait all night to gain access to his storage unit?

I think you need a big 18 X 24 picture of Prince Harry and Megan Markle on the wall behind you to spruce it up a little. Thank you for another great video.

I live in BC. In my locale the bad guys steal the truck, drive to a remote location to remove the parts they want, then burn the truck to destroy any fingerprints they left. The wilderness is the chop shop. Kid could have been separated from his truck anywhere.

Why did he take his most valuable items (except the truck) if he decided to commit suicide?

If Marshall burned his truck, where was the steering wheel? He would have no need to take it with him. Why would someone else burn the vehicle? Unless to hide evidence. Perhaps Marshall had no set plan and still met with foul play. The fact that other men had gone missing and another car had been found burned is compelling.

Just a reminder I'm not diagnosing anybody in this video; only speculating about cacti acclimatizing to their new environment like this.

This is a puzzling case. I feel incomplete.
