If Valve or the community made a standalone steamvr os/interface that can be flashed onto headsets like the pico neo 4, then I would 100% recommend the neo 4.

if they're pricing it that low, it's almost certainly because they intend to make money off of info the same way Facebook does. I don't think "no Facebook" means as much as we think it does.

I can say with some certainty that I'd always choose meta over tiktok (/parent corp). I'm no fan of the mega corps but I'll choose a western megacorp over a Chinese one any day of the week.

This is exciting!! I can't wait to see where this tech is in just 5 years. Once haptics become cheap and standard combined with better self/object collision it's going to start to feel much more immersive

I really hope this time Pico can deliver a truly good vr hmd. Pls, no marketing disaster (like the china mainland neo 3 release) again. No one wants a monopoly. Even me, basically a pico hater atm, really want pico to deliver a true quest competitor

I feel like the extra competition given by other companies to meta (specifically the pico) will help push meta into improving their hardware, but I’m also not quite happy about my options being one big social media platform or the other :/

I really hope these companies don’t dominate the space because i love the ambitious projects by smaller companies, but of course they don’t have enough capital to get out there.

Looks like if Meta wants to stop Pico from competing and/or blatantly ripping their tech, they have to move their manufacturing elsewhere
But i wonder how much that would cost to make outside of china

It's still funny to me how ridiculously obvious it is that they practically stole the Q2 design, changed it up and are claiming it as their "original design"
But I'm glad to see competition! It means more innovation in the VR market

I believe the headset exclusives, more than anything, are going to become a deciding factor for many moving forward.
I hate to be tied to Meta, bit I'm even considering buying a stand alone FB headset, just to get the exclusives.

The HTC/Vive product shows 'Genlock' on the screen which means it is meant to sync with cameras. Maybe more for virtual production work (like shooting films) than mocap
