It felt like Tom’s power over Greg was slipping, then Greg betrayed and Tom was able to put him back in his place, essentially saying “I’m the only thing keeping you here, so do as you’re told or you’re fired”

Greg didn't really betray Tom. He betrayed Mattson. Tom never technically told Greg it was him. Greg only knew shiv was out due to his eavesdropping. So in a way Tom looked at it as a bad move but not necessarily against him even though it affected him.

What a lot of people don’t talk about is the fact that at a certain point, if Greg have ANYONE information, they 100 percent believed it. His word was solid to everyone. Shiv literally believe that she was out as CEO solely because Greg said so.

I personally think TOM saw a lot of HIMSELF in GREG. Greg was willing to jump on landmines to protect the Roys, like him and there is a feeling of not really being on "the inside, " when it comes to the family. I think Tom saw a kindred spirit and it's what we all sort of look for when we build our inner circle. Greg is understandable and predictable, as it was said in the video. Go with the monster that you know and can control compared to other options.

Greg finally became Tom's sporus, a deal with the devil indeed.

He kept Greg because Greg knew about the bodies Tom hid for the company. Tom himself says that with this information Greg could send him to jail.

The reason was: Tom is secretely gay and in love with Greg.

Because Greg is the only one not a threat to replace him.

The main reason Greg wasn't fired is that without Greg's betrayal, Tom would most likely become CEO, but his relationship with Shiv would fall apart forever.

If Greg hadn't betrayed, Tom would become the CEO and Shiv would feel cheated and deprived of the opportunity to act.
Thanks to the early disclosure of the plot, , she could decide whether to support her brother or Tom. It kept her from being a pawn on a chessboard and she chose Tom. Otherwise she would have been tricked and ended up like Kendall and resented Tom. It seems that Greg saved Tom's family from disintegration.

Greg also had intimate knowledge on nearly every way star scandal, it was easier to keep Greg next to him than let him leave and risk him going to the press.

This show is particularly dear to me, because I inherited a Family Business and dealt with Family Issues when our Patriarch died and boy did I have to deal with so much drama and back biting behind the scenes at my father's funeral, he had been married 3 times and 2 wives showed up; hell this show dynamic was so much like my family that the ending makes complete sense.

I am running my family business alone and all of my family refuses to even support it, simply because I inherited it and they didn't! Just like those siblings many of them wanted to see it close vs me running it and it took me many years to understand why. The business was underwater, in huge debt that no one wanted to pay and I turned it around.
Since we are a Black family business, seeing this Scottish Immigrant family go through the same journey let me know when the transition of money & wealth is involved, race doesn't even matter. If the Father & Mother failed to create a healthy family dynamic and instill values of unity and love in their children, there is destined to be heartbreak during the transition from one generation to the next! Our Father was a difficult figure in our family as well.

There is a reason why 75% of Second Generation Family Businesses fail and this show is a classic story of why that happens. Bravo to Succession for staying true to a realistic ending!

Simple. Tom kept Greg for the sme reason Logan kept Tom. Greg's ambition makes him the perfect tool to manipulate even when Greg knows he is being manipulated.

Tom literally put a Mole on Greggs forehead and the New Owner called him a Judas in front of everyone and he stays just to be a punching bag; because he didn't heed his grandfather's warning to stay away from his brother's company! The Finale was so tragic, it's Shakesperean and as I reflect on its sadness; I realize even the losers are still stinking rich.

How could anyone fire a Greg?
One does keep the Greg.

It's cuz Greg inadvertently saved Tom's marriage. If shiv found out afterwards she would've ended it

Agreed except for Tom having a “moral compass, ” (he was ok with Matsson sleeping with Shiv hypothetically). I think Greg is also like an elaborate toy; the one Roy he can control.

because tom knows that champions need a breakfast fit for champions.

Good video. I have an unrelated question: why didn't Ken---in an act of desperation---just offer Shiv the CEO spot when she made it clear she wasn't going to vote against the acquisition? That way the company would still belong to them and he could later plot and scheme against her to get CEO, as they had been doing the entire series. I guess the creators of the show had to bring it to an end, otherwise this drama could've gone on ad infinitum. (Part of me, though, wishes they make a movie sequel where the final scenes from the series finale were just a dream Ken was having, a la "The Devil's Advocate, " and when he wakes up he's back in the conference room with Shiv and Roman and then offers the CEO spot to her as a bargaining chip to get her vote. The movie would then be about him trying to steal it back from her, etc. etc.)

You think Tom has anything close to a moral compass?

Interesting.
