A gentleman I met survived cancer in spring, then ran the NYC Marathon in the fall of the same year. His motto was, “Beat yesterday!” Words to live by. 🙏🏻😌

I think Manon could read a telephone book (does that still exist?) and I would still love it! I think there was a Redwing calling in the background btw (beauty of a bird mostly winter guest in the UK i think)

Whoever decided to keep Manon's laugh before cutting away made the right call, hysterical

The trick to meeting goals is that you have to define them on a per week basis when the year starts, and then allow yourself to go into "goal debt" and keep track of it, meaning if you don't meet your weekly goal for that week due to unforeseen circumstances, you can make it up in another week when the circumstances improve or you feel more energetic. That way, your main goal "stays alive". I spent 20 years of my life trying to meet goals and always failing until I started doing it this way. Now I always meet all my goals for the year. For example, run 10 km per week for a total of 520 km for the year. If you have a bad week and run only 3 km, the next week you run 17 km, instead of saying "oh well, nice try... I'll start again next year". I use this for everything (practicing guitar, weight training, cycling, running, etc).

I've kept New Years resolutions every year for 21 years straight. In 2001 I made a New Years resolution to never make another New Years resolution again.

Whatever the topic as long as Manon is the presenter I'm down with it!

Manon can motivate like no other, I always set my goals much higher than achievable and aim for atleast 75%, if not in pursuit I tend to get lazy.

Here is a question I have never heard asked or addressed regarding your channel: Who does your writing for these episodes? They are nearly always EXCELLENT, and after all this time watching (since year one), I've just come to expect nothing short of excellent, viewing and hearing exactly what the episode title says, in very clear, well crafted, and delivered dialog. It would be nice to meet that unseen staff, to give them well deserved kudos.

Right now there's too much snow on the ground, so for now it's indoors and the trainer for me and 4 workouts per week. Per Manon's comments my goal is to commit to training so I can compete in 3 crits in my area this year.

The only goal I missed last year was not doing an mtb race. I doubled my yearly mileage goal, I raced two crits and did my first century. Group riding was a huge factor in reaching my goals and progressing.

Hey Manon!
Back when I watched your vid challenging a triathlete at the gym, you leg pressed 150Kgs seven reps. I thought to myself that must be important to improving my riding performance if you did.

The challenge was on.
My first attempt was barely 70lbs.
It has taken 100s of progressive gym workouts, however, last week I broke 340 Lbs for 10 reps. As a result, my climbing and endurance have improved enormously.

This may not sound like much of a feat to y’all Pro’s.

I’ll turn 69 in a few months and have been a newbie cyclist for less than two years.

My quads and glutes are the envy of my friends and some younglings as well.
Thank you for setting that “impossible” mark for me! Goals are only impossible if you allow them to be and aren’t committed to put in the hard work.
Yes !! Yearly Goals are immensely important. ❤️
This year I’ll focus on improving my FTP to a respectable (newbie) level.

This is why I prefer to make and plan around goals, than resolutions!

I feel observed... I was thinking about this during this month.

I started the year with good results, but then mom had a surgery. Then grandma. Now my cousin. And most of the time I was the one who helped taking care of them on the hospital. Now I feel very unmotivated to start over...

I kept it easy; Ride my bike every day in 2022 for at least twenty minutes, barring any medical emergencies or power outages if the weather is terrible. I haven't missed a day yet, and as of today I've racked up 421 miles cumulative distance.
