I think it would be way more powerful of kratos killed ares out of protecting Greece besides revenge. Revenge goes against kratos’ character development. After people see that kratos is now a protector then everyone could begin to love him instead of fear him. Then the prophecy at the end of ragnarok would come true.

Last two GoW games: Kratos is tired of the cicle of vengeance and has grown past it. He is no longer willing to kill gods and fall into his anger and violence but rather prefers wisdom, pace and calm to start a new life away from his horrible past.

When he returns to Greece he kills Ares not out of hate or revenge, but to protect & to create/foster peace. He saves the world & it's inhabitants from the horrors of war. As such he is then known known by the people as the creator, protector & "god" of peace.

If we get back to Greece that would be awesome. Problem is who would we kill, we already destroyed the Greek pantheon. Would it be a crossover with Egypt like many speculate?

Ares teaming up with the egyptian gods to hurt atreus in order to bait kratos into falling to his rage in order to take his revenge would be incredible

This would definitely be a "Justice, not vengeance" type of situation. Kratos would need to calm down and try to keep in mind that: Yes, he should go hunt for Ares and kill him once again, but he shouldn't do it for revenge. He should do it to make sure he won't bring misery to anyone else.

Maybe GoW4, but in GoWR he's moved beyond the need for it. He won't let Ares ruin his home, but he's not going to go after him

People say Kratos isn’t vengeful anymore and he isn’t but i think he could make an exception for Ares. Ares is literally the guy who ruined Kratos’ life in the first place and the reason he did everything he did including alot of stuff he regrets doing. If Kratos found out he was alive im certain he would try and Kill him. Afterall Ares would definitely do the same if he found out where Kratos lived.
