It’s a good thing Legolas didn’t have a chance to put the ring on or he’ll be the most OP stealth archer there is. One shot everything.

I have always wondered why Isildur was able to turn the Dunharrow Men into spirits, always assumed it was some sort of Numenoriean magic, but now I guess it might have been related to the power of the One Ring, like the Ringwraiths.

Because taking the attack action while invisible breaks concentration

Nope. Sauron had a physical body at the point Gilgalad and crew defeated him. The ring gave power according to the statue of the wearer. The ring was not an invisibility ring, though it could do that. The ring could be wielded in many ways and give much power to the powerful. Sauron had complete mastery over the ring. I’d argue isildur used it for invisibility when he was trying to flee the orcs, but being Numenorean, he could have wielded it in other ways as well. It’s just he was needing invisibility at that point. The hobbits were not interested in power, but they had a natural skill at hiding and being quiet when not wanting to be discovered (as the books relate) hence that is the power of the ring they more or less defaulted to

Though I agree this is the correct answer… it’s always sat funny with me. It feels like it boils down to, “Cuz he doesn’t wanna.”

He’s a spiritual being which manifests a physical form. Logically speaking, he wouldn’t even need the ring to go invisible since he can just stop manifesting physically(?)

Makes me wonder if Gandalf would go invisible if he wore the ring since he’s also a spiritual / physical hybrid thingy.

Easy answer: It’s his and can do what please’s with it.

Better answer: To get people on his podcast when they wear the ring instead of him so they don’t get interrupted.

I always felt a bit bad for saruman. He messed up once, died and wasn't allowed to even negotiate a return to the undying lands. Sauron - loads of mess ups, before he'd gone beyond the point of no redemption, as far as the Valar and Eru were concerned!

I think it provides power in form, Hobbits generally go unnoticed and want to do so so it turns them invisible, men crave great strength so I believe wielding the ring would provide the power to be a one man army while simultaneously corrupting.

Tom Bombadil also didn't turn invisible. Though I don't think he is categorized as a spirit.

It's because when you wear the ring, you wear it to escape. When he wore the ring he wore it for power

Well there is also that it is really a lot harder to lead anything while invisible. After all, if men cannot see spirits, and Sauron is a spirit being, then he would always be invisible. (Also spiritual does not mean the same thing as one who is a spirit)

The ring of power enhances the wielders abilities and bestows what the user desires most. In the case of Isildur he desired not be seen so he could of escaped so it turned him invisible and for the case of frodo not being seen as a hobbit is a natural gift of their people and he always desires not be seen by the enemy so it always turned him invisible. For those that did not desire secrecy it would have given unimaginable powers as gandalf already stated this would happen to him if he took the ring. To answer the comment about the army of the dead, nothing to do with isildur they broke a oath and in the lord of the rings an oath is extremely powerful.
