In this short, physicist Brian Cox unpacks one of the biggest mysteries surrounding black holes—how energy escapes their gravitational pull. Contrary to popular belief, black holes aren’t just one-way traps for matter and energy. Cox explains the science behind Hawking Radiation, a process through which black holes emit energy over time, eventually causing them to evaporate. This fascinating concept reveals that black holes aren’t as eternal as we once thought, and their energy loss could hold key insights into the nature of the universe.

Interesting concept that you could basically „starve“ a black hole, by merely depriving it from further mass to consume… until it eventually crosses below the threshold of mass that creates the event horizon („light escape barrier“) in the first place, and turns back into a visible supermassive star 🤯

one day = so far in the future that it may as well be called eternal
