"skill issue" isnt just used in hk, it's a widely used term for everything video game related and irl

1) a joke. (Probably most commonly)
2) a genuine say to overcome the challenge, rise from the bottom and conquer the challenge before you. (bc sometimes it's true and the best thing to do)
3) an asshole who looks down on you.

"git gud" is actually a bit older than HK as a whole. It's an old response about when people would complain about dark souls difficulty. Definitely a fun rabbit hole to get into.

the phrase "git gud" is used by hornet in the final battle, skill issue is just a phrase when you're bad at the game, which is gonna be a lot in the beginning hollow knight is a hard game. oh and we're pretty toxic sometimes lol

People tend to mute out criticism of Hollow Knight once they become “pros” at the game, only because it makes them think the game’s suddenly lost its insane difficulty. They aren’t aware of how many new or confused players join the game. “Git gud” is a moderately funny reference, but it’s just rude to blurt something like that out to a reasonable critic.

It is an overused but sometimes valid argument, mainly because there are often people complaining about game design features in games just because it is difficult for them personally, for instance if someone were to say the white palace is bad game design it is probably just because they personally struggle with parkour since it's entire point is to be a particularly difficult and somewhat jarring part of the game

tbh git gud and skill issue can sometimes be valid like if someone is saying hollow knight is impossible but if you just "git gud" it's fun or it may not be the game for you

The Get Gud one is def from Hornet. The whole “skill issue” thing however is from the souls like community, and I’ve always found it rather toxic… Any time there’s something wrong with a souls like, people just say it’s a “skill issue” to dismiss any actual problems… It’s one of the reasons Hollow Knight is the only Souls Like I’ll ever play. Not everyone enjoys bashing their head into the wall until there’s brain damage… and the souls like community often acts like they’re superior for liking it…
