Anakin was always the chosen one.The problem was that to fulfill the prophecy he needed to become the enemy he was prophesied to destoy.He was always going to bring balance to the force, just not in the direction the Jedi had perceived.

What's also missing is that Anakin believed that Obi-Wan wanted to take his wife away and manipulated her into being with him and turning against Anakin. Palpatine also used this to manipulate Anakin and turn against Obi-Wan, whom he trusted so much. That's why he says to Mustafa, "You won't take her away from me, " and says to Padme, "Is it because of Obi-Wan?" He really thought that Padme and Obi-Wan had teamed up to get rid of Anakin at that point. All the preliminary conversations were cut out, though.

Well there were 10 000 jedi ruling the galaxy, and no sith to be found and they deducted that to bring balance to the force would mean to further strengthen the jedi... Wasn't it obvious that the force was very disbalanced in favour of the light side, after all the force has 2 sides.
