Having ALLEGEDLY owned a radar detector in my youth, I can attest to the fact that anything on the cheaper end of the spectrum will in fact detect radar and sometimes even LiDAR but will also detect toll booths, cars and trucks with side detection or adaptive cruise control, and automatic doors on the front entrance of buildings.

I was living in South Africa when that flamethrower came to market. They had T.V. adverts for it. Like American-style infomercials with an upbeat and bouncy tone. Probably the biggest culture shock I experienced in the year+ I was out there as a Brit.

We had a problem at one point of a person impersonating a cop. Cops told us we could call 911 before pulling over and verify it was an actual police officer behind us.

Growing up as a girl in the 90s in a rural area with a TON of long and desolate stretches of roadway, one of the first things I learned about the police is that you never, EVER pull over for an officer at night. You call dispatch and tell them to inform the officer that you will not pull over until you can reach a gas station or someplace well-lit and relatively populated. Because you don't know if those flashing lights belong to an actual officer or some rando with strobe lights.

17:52 those are known as "Czech hedgehogs" and are a tank traps. These are static barricades meant to stop vehicles including.... tanks. Caltrops are specifically meant to be portable and have a point sticking up to pierce a tire, foot, hoof, etc.

Radar detectors: I heard a story 20 years ago of a governor who would carry a radar gun on state business trips in the helicopter. When over the expressway, the radar gun was aimed down below. The cars that had radar detectors emitted an alert that cause multiple brake lights flashing as drivers reduced their speed to the limit.

If you drive around your "neighborhood" (and I use that word ironically) with a mounted .50 BMG in rural Arkansas, the police will definitely stop you...to compliment you on how awesome it is.

Just remembered: in the 90's during one case of radar jamming (and bricking) it was discovered that the 'culprit' didn't know that the decommissioned fighter-jet he was transporting to a museum still had its SAM Detection and Neutralization system installed (let alone that it was self-activating, which *was* a good thing for its intended purpose) … he did wonder why it tried to fire a, thankfully not mounted (for legal reasons), Shrike.

Side note: The teen who hit the cyclists in Texas was arrested only after nationwide outrage and forced the hand of the officers.
