Are stun guns a good self defense tool?

It's not about pain. Pain isn't what registers. It's about creating confusion and temporary immobilization to provide enough time to get away. It's not a dueling device. Additionally, if you carry a pain pen, you should carry pepper spray too, and of course a projectile weapon if you choose. This provides multiple levels of protection to use when/as needed.

Pepper spray then activate baton on them and then stun them once they are on the floor for good measure

Yeah you can also get accustomed to the electric shock. In highschool my friends and I would have a contest to see who could hold a taser on themselves for the longest time but eventually had to give it up because it got to where we could all basically kill a new battery without needing to pull away
