In 2001 the TV documentary 'Wingspan' was released, which gave an overview of Paul's early solo career and his adventures with Wings.

Paul was interviewed by his daughter Mary McCartney. The interview was recorded on 13/14 February 2001 at the House of the Redeemer, New York.

Over 20 minutes of extra interview footage (not used in the main documentary) was included as an extra when Wingspan was issued on DVD.

I've posted these in short clips on my channel over the past few months. I've had requests to post them all in full, so here you are.

Enjoy!

Hey Mary…your dad is one of the greatest men to have graced our planet. Is easily one of the most talented and gifted songwriters in HISTORY. There will be statues of this man, and his name ranks amongst the greatest artists of all time like Beethoven, Shakespeare, Mozart, Picasso…

He is a living legend. And people will speak of him 200 years from now and beyond!!

Your dad and family are a gift from heaven. Thank you!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻

He knows music so well he just takes a story, lyric line and forms the music around the words. Or starts with a riff and then does the same.
So great. "It just comes naturally to me."

One of the greatest human beings to ever live. Him and the other three lads giving immeasurable joy to the world through music. Wings and solo. And a very sweet fun loving person to boot. 🎶

1975, Atlanta, GA., USA - WINGS OVER AMERICA - I and my best friend met the band (minus Paul, Linda and Joe) at dinner atop the hotel next to the Omni Auditorium. Later at the concert I vibrated from my cheap assigned seat walked around the floor near the stage and saw a whole aisle of empty seats. Being a curious and knowledgeable Mcgeek I noticed that the filled row just in front of the vacant one sat P & L's whole family+nanny holding future famous celeb designer Stella McCartney. So, I quietly slipped into the empty seat on the aisle just behind the beautiful interviewer you're watching right now. Long comment longer, I knew why the seats were empty and I now had a 'PREMIUM' seat to enjoy the show. Interestingly, Mary had more fun interacting with me than her boring old parents. Of course P & L were watching us.
I knew there had to be other body guards surreptitiously checking me out but no one said a word. I was conciously redirecting other fans from the primo aisle I was borrowing allowing full access to Mary and her friend (daughter of Howie Casey, horn player in the band) and rest of the family.
"In my green metal suit I was preparing to shoot up the city" but really all I had was my brown velour jacket and pocket camera ready to shoot up the show. The two girls were actively amusing themselves acting out for attention. While I was distracted watching the band Mary secreted the camera from my pocket and began taking photos of me. Some girl heading toward the stage with a bouquet of flowers was stopped before she got to the stage and turned back my way. I asked for one of the red roses but she nicely handed me a pink carnation. I broke off most of the stem and asked Mary if she would hold it in her mouth. Then I asked for my camera back - And if you can't guess what I did then you've either stopped reading or not really familiar with earlier P & L solo work. The photo I got was Mary mimicking the cover of 'Red Rose Speedway'. Believe it or not this is the short version - the best is yet to come.
As alluded to earlier, all was being observed. So the first time the bodyguard became visible he quickly asked me to huddle up with ALL the kids, Heather, the babysitter and Stella. Then. . . THEN, he told us all that I, . . . I? was cool? . . . and that he had been called to help clear off a bunch of jelly babies an enthusiastic Beatle freak had thrown onto the stage. The last thing he said to me was "guard them with your life". All I could think was, uh, DUH! . .ok. I don't think I aged a day after that moment. WAIT - there's more!
I was now in the super premium VIP section between nanny, Stella and Heather standing on the seat next to me. Mary and her friend were sitting in front of Heather's legs and I was standing next to Heather straddling the arm between seats. Most fans were on their seats by now and I was conversing with a seemingly very adult Heather talking music that she liked and what her favourite Wings song was ('HI, HI, HI'). The same kid that made Ringo laugh during 'Let it Be' was making me laugh as I was guarding her life(?). Really? - how absurd, ironic or, or just a lucid maniacal dream. I mean deep dark and hypnotic.49 years later was I Swiftinized? - whatever -
Anyway, I was wearing a unique, demitasse ring a recent love interest had given me so I slipped it off and showed it to Heather. She was genuinely interested and showed sincere curiosity towards it and even tried it on. It fit - perfectly! Of course I asked her to keep it. She was profoundly real about it and showed no discomfort at a random guy hanging with her and her family - GUARDING THEIR LIVES - Not exactly sure whether it was dark or light, but it was magical.
It's now 2024 and they're all still alive, so . . . Job well done - unless, I actually fell asleep after watching 'Wingspan' and this was, really, all just a dream. I guess you'll never know - but, 'I Will'.
After the trance and concert ended I found my friend and went to the restaurant/bar on top the hotel where we ended the night with most of the adults in the band partying, especially with, now fallen rock stars, Guitarist extraordinair Jimmy Mc. and Denny Laine.
Or, maybe ot was an inner delusional fantasy tale I'm spinning while rocking around in a home with other folk rocking around in our chairs who desperately need someone interested in their almost forgotten memories and dreams. Rock on sweet dreamers.
Stay 16 - Thanks for the memories Real Cameras and other legends in their own time. Lullabyes in the beginning to lullabyebyes at the end. ∆nonamelee

Don’t know what brought me to this, random scrolling on utube. I’m not a fan of Paul McCartney but this kind of changed my mind about him.
