3-row buttonhole // Technique Tuesday

This video demonstrates a variation on the YO buttonhole. This buttonhole spans a single stitch, just as the regular YO buttonhole does, but because it is worked over the course of three rows, it is larger and can accommodate a larger button.

Thank you so much for your video. I was struggling to keep my buttonholes in line and the way you showed is much easier than the way I had learned years ago. Really clear and helpful. 👍🏻

Roxanne—thank you so much for this clear video! It was just what I needed to knit the buttonholes in the ribbing on my Pressed Flowers Cardigan! I’m a new fan🥰

Roxanne - Thanks for your videos!!! They're absolutely the best because you include a discussion on why & where the technique should be used.

Thank you. My buttonholes have always looked like a dogs breakfast and it takes me ages and lots of changes to get it to look ‘kinda’ neat…ish but this is so simple and neat.

I really like your channel. You explain knitting techniques thoroughly better than any I've seen. You also explain knitting itself and I'm so thankful that I've found your channel so keep up the good work!😁

This is great. I don’t have much experience with buttonholes and I found it very informative. I’ve only done a few on cowls. I’ve made many sweaters but no cardigans. I’d really like to make one. It’s my goal. Luckily I have enough grandchildren so I can make a small one to start with Thanks Roxanne!

LOL read the title and it was like "Yo... it's a button whole!"

I was able to follow along with your video to make the button holes. Thank you for showing this technique. What if I have
a 1 1/2" button I would have to bring yarn around the needle four times then ssk or knit two together. Then when I am in row two I would drop once then twice it will leave a longer string. On row three I would just pearl as usual under strings of button hole and continue knitting stitches as shown. Am I right? I like the 70's theme of big buttons on my sweaters. I did try it and my big button went through but I want to know how you would make the jumbo button hole.

Thanks for the great instructions! Would this 3-row buttonhole work for making fingerless gloves in the round? The buttonhole serving as a thumb hole. So basically a stockinette stitched tube with a buttonhole. TIA

Could this be done over about 7 rows knitting in the round to accommodate a huge button, or a ponytail if going up the back of a beanie?

Dear Roxanne, your videos have been so helpful on more than one occasion. But my question is actually on the gorgeous cardigan you’re wearing. I’m currently searching for a pattern like this. Can you possibly tell me where I can buy the pattern?
