How To Set a Custom Resolution in Windows 10

While Windows 10 does ok when it comes to detecting the best resolution for a screen, it’s not exactly perfect. If you need to choose a custom resolution for a monitor you use, here’s what you’ll need to know.

if your resolution doesn’t fit ur monitor screen what worked for me was settings>display>multiple displays> put “show only on 2” it should be full screen afterwards

Not really a guide on setting a custom resolution though... just picking from a list of standard resolutions. I want to set 3099 x 1363 for example - definitely not a resolution that comes in any list, but it's what ends up being the area of the display for VMs in my VMware workstation UI. For what it's worth, what ended up working for me was to run
cd "\Program Files\VMware\VMware Tools"
.\VMwareResolutionSet.exe 0 1, 0 0 3099 1353
from an elevated command prompt.
