Finally, some one who shows that the flutter kick goes more sideways rather than straight up and down....I think you should expand that part of the lesson.

Maybe do laps just doing the flutter kick, and not using your arms. I prefer using a snorkel and kick board so I can rotate my hips like I do when I swim the full stroke.

I’ve just started to swim regularly going on six weeks now. I totally panic in freestyle probably because I lack rotation. I literally only make it three strokes. This last week I started the breathing drills. I’ll have to figure out how to rotate while I do the drills. Otherwise I’m doing well with my breaststroke and backstroke laps. I’m proud of my progress. Thanks for your videos.

I was playing around with this some more during my kicking laps yesterday. One of your kicks here is almost straight up and down. I was trying to figure out if that is the #3 kick or the #1 kick. There is a nice 'Slow motion underwater' video of Katy Ledecky and that is where I first noticed the sideways.scissor kicking style that she uses. Her first kick goes a little sideways, then it seemed like the others went totally sideways. So, when paying attention to my kick yesterday, it seemed that my #3 kick was pretty much vertical. I know my #1 kick is a bit angled. I think I was pretty much sideways on all 3 kicks by the time kicking laps were done.


With my flutter kick laps, I use a kick board held side ways rather than end ways. My fingers over lap the edge of the board and my thumbs just touch. I rotate the board front and back to mimic my arm stroke pull and recover as well as getting in my shoulder rotation. This also has me doing hip rotation. I do this with a snorkel, and with or without fins. I never liked the kicking laps with my head up and just straight up and down kicking like the first demo you do with your fingers. It may be good exercise if that is all you are after, but if you want to practice how you swim, that style just doesn't do the whole job...

That was great, yes, rotation will give you a bigger kick under water. I wonder if you do do a video on how often to swim for beginners to advanced. Is there a recovery period? I am still building muscle and feel I should only swim every other day.

I am sprinter and my best style is free of course but i have a problem when ı'm at the meet i am swimming first 25 without breath or 1 breath easily but at the last 25 i can' t hold my pace anymore at 100 free it happens at middle of the third 25 i don't know why maybe i'm pushing myself to hard at first and my arm technique is bad can yoy help me pls
