John saw you @ Godfrey Daniels I lived in the valley you are absolutely the most awesome folk singer up there with woody, you have a heart of depth and substanence and a way with word and guitar. How anyone could confuse racism out of this song truly does not get you at all. No worries you have fans who truly afore what you have contributed to this world. At the music festival many years ago in Bethlehem my daughter ran up to you yelling " your the the great John Gorka" you blushed and ever so sweetly gave her a hug. She was 8 yo and she understood your music especially the ones about the valley my sister lives next to the wagners

John !!! Your voice sounds great! Sweet and clear! Like your faster tempo songs! But all are a source of healing and calm. Thank you for sharing your gifts!

This song is most likely about him and his generation and how is father worked hard to send him to college, as that was the way of the baby boomers generation etc. not any political racial whatever unbelievable. I love you John I love your music and when the family the girls and I play it on the holidays especially reminding us of home and better days. Thank you for your poetry it reaches so many of us. I know no other man to be as humble as you are wishing you nothing but great success always christine

John is playing a Martin OOO28, I would guess from before the early 1960s.

[Tyneside, England.]

Grew up in a house without running water. Cut firewood to sell. Worked on freight docks as soon as I was old enough. Haven't found the privilege yet.
