John saw you @ Godfrey Daniels I lived in the valley you are absolutely the most awesome folk singer up there with woody, you have a heart of depth and substanence and a way with word and guitar. How anyone could confuse racism out of this song truly does not get you at all. No worries you have fans who truly afore what you have contributed to this world. At the music festival many years ago in Bethlehem my daughter ran up to you yelling " your the the great John Gorka" you blushed and ever so sweetly gave her a hug. She was 8 yo and she understood your music especially the ones about the valley my sister lives next to the wagners

This song is most likely about him and his generation and how is father worked hard to send him to college, as that was the way of the baby boomers generation etc. not any political racial whatever unbelievable.
