@Alok: I've lost trust in government bonds too, after the unexpected 9% overnight drop in Sovereign Gold Bond prices due to a sudden import tax change. This is concerning for those with maturing SGBs this year. How can we be confident the government won't make similar disruptive policy changes affecting the debt market?

Question on Gold ETF

What is the underlying asset on Gold ETF?

E g. SBI SETFGOLD ETF 1 unit value as of 31 July is 60.65....I would like your view on the following

1. Underlying asset in the ETF
2. Being an exchange traded product would an ETF also have a premium it its underlying boom value...i.e. would it also have a hight price to book value?
3. What is the corresponding value to Gold in a gram would 1 unit of SETFGOLD currently trading at 60.65 euqate to 0.001 gram?

The learning lesson for us is that any long term bonds etc with the govt are at great regulatory risk. Better to have the actual commodity.

A wild guess as per my observation:

The low audio quality and delay on today video could be due to major long power outage around area where Alokji lives.
Its raining since long here.
Hence the team might have shifted to backup setup to record, edit and upload.

If thats the case or any is the case, many of us do appreciate your consistency to keep us informed n be updated by your daily byte even if there was any challenge at their end.

When rate cut starts to happen.. all money will start to flow towards bonds to lock in money at higher rate and get opportunity for capital gains because of lower future yields, wouldn’t that impact stock market? As money might flow from equity to bonds

Dear Alok Sir, I am your HNI Capital Compounder subscriber and I follow your videos regularly. Based on your current video, it is clear that Govt would unlikely issue new SGBs. However, If I see SGB prices in secondary market, they have not fallen compare to physical gold. So I have few doubts:

1. For newer investments, Does it make sense to buy SGB costing 76K/10gm from secondary market or Buy physical gold costing 72K/10gm?
2. If Govt discontinue issuing SGBs then I feel volume of SGB will also go down significantly in future. In such case, If I still want to invest in Gold, which are best other options? what do you recommend buying?

So bottom line is how a investor look to buy Gold from now on ?

Is discount to fair value of SGB still exist or it just vanished because of import duty reduced and if SGB will not have upcoming issue then the existing SGB will shoot up because of demand or not.

In my view SGB holders do not loose much as if one had bought physical gold in that case too one had paid higher custom duty and not with reduced custom physical gold prices also reduced. Let’s accept that government is cutting its losses and SGB holders has to bear it in the same way as physical gold holders. Silver lining is that SGB holders get 2.5% interest & capital gains exemption. So be happy with what we get after govet takes its share(in this case covering its losses)
