The Vickers Valiant was one of three British V bombers (the others were the Avro Vulcan and the Handley Page Victor), designed to carry nuclear weapons. It was developed as a high-altitude bomber, but was later used for low-level missions. The Valiant was also used for conventional weapons, and saw combat in the Suez crisis, before it was forced into early retirement.

The Valiant bomber was the primary inspiration for the Villiers Vindicator bomber in the James Bond novel “Thunderball”.

I heard somewhere that when the movie adaptation was made Eon Productions wanted to use a Valiant for the movie but the RAF said *no* hence why the Vulcan.
