I guess there’s some good artists and songs in today’s “Country” music, but compared to the singers and songs from this era, they all just seem to be pretending. Many of the classic singers from yesteryear grew up in the South, working in a coal mine, laboring on a farm or a ranch, or were just poor. They seemed to sing from the heart. Today’s tatted up singers from Australia, or Detroit, or Los Angeles seem like they walked into a studio and some executive said “we’ll make you a country singer.” Everybody seems to have the same look, and the same sound, and the same face they put on to the world. It says something that if Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline where to come back to life and try to make it country music today they would get shown the door because “you aren’t the sound and look we want right now.”
