The most familiar version of "Have You Ever Been Lonely?" is an electronically created "duet" featuring country music singers, Jim Reeves and Patsy Cline, who had both died in separate plane crashes (Cline in 1963, Reeves in 1964) and had never recorded together during their lifetimes.

"Have You Ever Been Lonely? (Have You Ever Been Blue?)" is a popular song with music by Peter De Rose and lyrics by Billy Hill (writing under the name of George Brown), published in 1932. It has been recorded by many singers, becoming a standard.

James Travis Reeves (August 20, 1923 – July 31, 1964) was an American country and popular music singer-songwriter. With records charting from the 1950s to the 1980s, he became well known as a practitioner of the Nashville sound (a mixture of older country-style music with elements of popular music). Known as "Gentleman Jim", his songs continued to chart for years after his death. Reeves died in the crash of his private airplane. He is a member of both the Country Music and Texas Country Music Halls of Fame.
***
Patsy Cline (born Virginia Patterson Hensley; September 8, 1932 – March 5, 1963) was an American country music artist. She is considered one of the most influential vocalists of the 20th century and was one of the first to successfully crossover into pop music. Cline recorded several songs that became major hits during her eight-year career, including 2 number-one hits on the Billboard Hot Country and Western Sides chart.

Lyrics:
Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue
Have you ever loved someone
Just as I love you
Can't you see I'm sorry
For each mistake I've made
Can't you see I've changed, dear
Can't you see I've paid
Be a little forgiving
Take me back in your heart
How can I go on living
Now that we're apart
If you knew what I've been through
Then you'd know why I ask you
Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue
Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue
Have you ever loved someone
Just as I love you
Can't you see that I'm sorry
For each mistake I made
Can't you see I've changed, dear
Can't you see that I've paid
Oh, be a little forgivin'
Take me back in your heart
How can I go on livin'
Now that we're apart
If you knew what I been through
You would know why I ask you
Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue
Be a little forgivin'
Take me back in your heart
How can I go on livin'
Now that we're apart
If you knew what I been through
You would know why I ask you
Have you ever been lonely
Have you ever been blue

Two departed legends
We will never get singers like them again.

THIS GEM WAS WRITTEN WAY BACK IN 1932 BY PETER DE ROSE AND BILLY HILL.

HOW FITTING THAT THESE TWO LEGENDS THAT PERISHED IN PRIVATE, SMALL AIRPLANE CRASHES WITHIN A FEW MONTHS OF EACHOTHER WERE RESURRECTED BY THE WIZARDRY OF TECHNOLOGY TO SING THIS INSUPERABLE DUET.

Two greatest who ever sung a song. I got to meet Jim's wife in Nashville back in the 90s what a delight. She treated me as if she had known me all my life. We became friends.

Two of the most perfect voices together. Jim and Patsy. Incredible talents that have continued over the years. Music, no matter what kind of music doesn't get any better than this.

I’m 53 and I remember putting his LP on the LP player as a teenager, not ashamed to admit it, while others were listening to more modern STUFF!! I love Jim’s songs and voice!!!

Two unique voices in their own style...soft and smooth...Its irony that both died in plane crashes. They don't make country music like this today. This is what u call ' country music'.

Saw Patsy on the Arthur Godfrey show in the mid 50's singing Walking After Midnight. Sad to myself now that is a woman I must follow, Patsy got me into country, who wouldn't after her voice A Goddess

The greatest 2 voices of music ever. The soft tone of Jim and the more sweet tone of Patsy. The Queen and King of country music forever....
