Stick Welding 7018 padding beads

Показать описание
Its a very efficient way to get in a lot of welding practice and uses very little metal compared to other Tee joints, or laps.
Think about building up a worn area on a shaft, or hardfacing teeth on heavy earth moving equipment, or stacking beads on a horizontal pipe joint.
All of these tasks use the same skill acquired padding beads.
In this video, I started out by welding a border bead using 6013 rod.
The border beads provides a straight line to follow to try to stack each subsequent bead on.
the objective is to run straight beads that are overlapped half way over the previous bead.
If you do it correctly, there will not be any valleys or excessive lumps.

I’ve found that when practicing it’s best to put yourself into bad situations (in welding terms) poorly prepped material, bad fit up, a fan blowing in an inconvenient direction. These things make practice harder, and I think that it will improve the quality of your serviceable parts if you are acostomed to running in bad conditions. In military terms “if it ain’t rainin, we ain’t trainin”

Just watched this with my basic instructor. He said "if I were you I'd watch this again". Thanks.

Jody, you're the best teacher on the web. One of my biggest faults, long arcing, gotta work on that. Drag that 7018. Thanks Jody

I don’t often write comments on YT but I wanted to tell you thanks. I do a lot of off roading here in the Sierra mountains, and have come across several instances where being able to weld is a huge advantage to either being towed out, or figuring your way out of it. Just started welding, but by far I have relied on your channel more than any other. Clearly you’ve got this art down. Thanks.

Jody I learned to weld watching your videos. You are by far the most informative instructor I've come across. The only common process I still struggle with is welding via oxyacetylene. If you need an idea for a video, OAW would be a great watch. Thank you sir!

You put a smile on my face 😅, and thanks for the lesson in skill building too. It's just what I need to get back into hobby stick-welding after a big break of 30 years.

Thank You for posting these videos. Very Informative. FYI, White out. brand Correction pens, with ball point tips. work 10x better than Silver-streak or soap stone. High visibility while welding. Works Great for Torch cutting, as well. When you still want to save your line, No matter how hot it gets, you still see it. Amazing stuff. and it's made for paper.

I use nothing but excalibur rods with my everlast welder. They work quite well for me. Jody you are a romantic at heart. Nice theme for a post on Valentine's Day.

Would love to see you do a set of the Fireball tool squares kits. They look handy and might be a fun useful build.
