Why You Should Stop Using Homeopathic Medicine

...

This is a true story. A few years ago, I fell down and really hurt my ankle. I needed a crutch for a while, I couldn't walk without help. It was bad.

I remember calling my parents, asking them to pick me up from my apartment at the time, and when I got home, my mom took this ointment that she had used on me when I was a kid.

It was some Indian medicine that she would rub on my foot, kind of massage it... and it had this really pleasant scent. And I remember getting hurt as a kid, she would do this, and I would feel better.

So this time, as she was doing it, I looked at the bottle and it said the word homeopathic on it. And I had no idea, growing up, that it was homeopathic.

Basically there was nothing in this ointment that would actually help heal my bruise. Nothing.

It was all in my head. It was always in my head.

But my mom genuinely believed it helped. And for a long time, so did I.

...

This sort of "medicine" exists for everything. Headaches, arthritis, ADHD.

And it's all fake.

Here's literally what they do with homeopathy.

They take a supposed active ingredient -- a mineral or herb -- and then they mix it with a lot of water. And then they take some of that mixture and mix it with even more water. And they keep doing this.

Eventually the ratio of the actual ingredient to water is like a single raindrop compared to all the oceans in the world.

It's not enough to have an impact on you.

The more diluted it is, the more useless it is.

And some homeopaths will tell you that that active ingredient impacts all the water. The water has a memory of the ingredient. Which makes no sense.

If you're at the beach and a little kid pees in the water a mile away, you're probably okay. It's not getting to you. Now imagine one drop of it. And these homeopaths are telling us that one drop impacts the entire ocean. Right...

The people who sell it make it look real. They have real bottles. The packaging looks nice. The pills look legitimate.

But it's just a placebo.

A very expensive placebo, by the way. People in the U.S. spend more than $3 billion a year on this sort of fake medicine.

Why do they buy it? Well, it's usually cheaper than real medicine, and people who don't understand science will tell you it totally works. Because they believe anecdotes over evidence.

You could literally swallow a whole bottle of homeopathic sleeping pills... and you'd be okay! People have done this as a demonstration. It's very powerful. (If you do it, please just make sure they're homeopathic.)

Now maybe you're thinking, who cares? If people feel better, what's the big deal?

The big deal is that people often use homeopathic medicine instead of going to a real doctor.

My ankle would eventually get better over time. But what happens when you have a real problem?

If you are taking homeopathic medicine for an infection, or cancer, or for swine flu -- yes, that happened, too -- you are putting yourself in danger by not getting real help.

I know it doesn't seem to make any sense but believe it or not it actually does work, coldeeze is homeopathic and it works every time I use it if I take it as directed, same with cough medicines and allergy eye drops, my eyes were itchy and watery and red and as soon as I used the drops it cleared up, this happened the same way last year and my mother said that those drops helped her allergy eyes as well and she didn't even know it was homeopathic. Then there were things that didn't seem to work, but regular medicine sometimes doesn't seem to work either. It's like the air, just because you don't see it doesn't mean its not there. These are like any other over the counter medicine, it's the persons choice if they want to use them or not, nobody is saying that anything over the counter no matter what it is replaces seeing a doctor because unfortunately none of them will, but having those taken off the shelves isn't fair just because some people don't believe that they work, then they don't have to buy them, we are all individuals

Ok first of all I went to a homeopathic doctor to help with some health stuff and he gave me a vial of some sort of substance, in his hand he put a vial that has a substance in it (so if ur trying to cure an allergy such as pollen) he would then tell u to extend ur arm out and he would push gently on it. if u don't have an allergy of something to that thing then ur arm would stay up against his push (keep in mind ur arm is also resisting his push) if u were allergic or something to something then he'd get another vial in his hand and push down of ur arm and you would push against with all ur strength but ur arm would fall down and it's crazy cause ur thinking omg I was resisting his push as hard as I could but my arm still went down! My sister also had some behavioral problems when she was little and he totally cured her!!! She would throw tantrums even when there was no reason to and she'd have night terrors all the time and scream out but now she doesn't! Thank you Homeopathic medicine!!!

I used it to cure a cyst in my son's eyelid when he was only some months old. The opthalmic had recommended an operation. But we decided to try homeopathy. My son was not of an age to understand placebo. Homeopathy worked and the cyst was gone in about 6 months.

Some homeopathic medicines do work. Why? Because they are not really homeopathic. Some companies skirt the FDA regulations by listing their drug as homeopathic. It is generally a good idea to avoid these though because there might be a good reason they feel they need to skirt the FDA regulations.

In science anything that can not be described by a mathematical formula or mathematical expression is treated as random. In my opinion random is actually a complex or yet undiscovered model.

If something you can not understand, does not mean it does not exist.

The fact is that, there are so many people who get benefit from homeopathic medicine when other regular Allopathic medicines do not work (for example in skin diseases and allergy issues). Sometimes these allopathic medicine only suppress the symptoms but do not cure the disease, but still we see the medical professionals (doctors) advocating us to use these medicines.

People around the world need cure, they don't want to become permanent customers of the big pharmaceutical firms.

So we should invest time on figuring out why people get benefit from homeopathic medicine than to just waste time on saying homeopathy is fraud!

Placebos can have a positive psychological effect and though they can't completely cure you they can prove useful.

My doc prescribed something for my hyperness. I don't taker it because it doesn't do anything IMO. BUT, when I go to the doc, he thinks i'm more mellow and credits the meds. I laugh to myself. The placebo effect works both ways.

if it worked, it would just be called medicine

If water has "memory", why is it that it only remembers the medicine or herb but forgets all the poop?

Homeopathy wouldn't have lasted so long if it didn't help. There are over 5000 homeopathic medicines, while an average person may only benefit from say 10 of them. That's why over-the-counter ones don't work that well for anything other than things with very clear causes like bug bites or physical trauma (arnica). That's why homeopaths get to know the medicines very well and selection becomes an art. Muscle testing also works very well. Given the right medicines, homeopathy can make a person feel much better. But if you don't get the right one, which is likely without guidance, it is easy to think it doesn't work.
