This is completely edited by the way. Its from a YouTube documentary called divided and damaged: the peace walls and the second guy was a loyalist. Not an IRA man and youll know that by the stuff this video left him out saying. The two of them became friends and do murals together between the falls road and Shankill Road

I knew a girl back in the late 90's, she was from Falls Road, in her early 20's and she told me that the best thing to happen to the youth in Northern Ireland was MDMA and rave culture. None of the teens on either side of the troubles wanted to fight each other when they were all high on Ecstasy and dancing all night together - take that for what you will but from her mouth she said the Millennials were sick and tired of the bullsh*t they grew up fearing and so when the Good Friday truce happened it wasn't hard for the youth to give up the fight, they would rather have fun and enjoy life

That's David Ervine's son Mark. I'm Catholic and from the South but David was one of the only politicians on this island that I've always had huge respect for. I believe he was an unsung hero in bringing about a lasting peace in Northern Ireland. A true visionary.. To this day, he really does not get the attention he deserves. And David's brothers wife Linda is actually the Irish Language Officer at Turas of all things..

Smartest lads in all this were the ones i played music with in Cornwall, galway, etc. They moved out of what they called "that sh't". And none of us cared who went to church or which one.

The second guy was a loyalist, not in the IRA.

This is why old soldiers are able to take to each other, regardless of sides. Something is born out of conflict which others dont see, but we do. When you age, it grows in you to see live from all angles.

in the end BOTH the UK including northern Ireland and the Irish republic ended up colonised by the religion of peace

I feel extremely sad at what's going on in Ireland right now. Half of Glasgow stands beside you! Stop the new plantation! Erin go bragh.

Older wiser men look back at their life it’s like how did I survive that how could I do that we go through many changes in our life certainly see things very differently at 60.

That 2nd guy's accent sounds like he's from Appalachia or somewhere around there. I know a lot of Scotch-Irish settled that part of the US, but I didn't expect anyone to sound so similar in the modern day

Young men have always been considered the greatest internal threat to govt due to their angst, impulsivity & ~immortality.🇮🇪

My wife’s grandmother told us a story about how when she was visiting her friend in Ireland (she was from Scotland). They would have to hide from the IRA, like under the bed and in hay lofts.

I only found out May this year that my great grandfather on my Nannas side (her Father) was killed during the “Irish Civil War” it was never mentioned ever, my Mum only learnt this year aswell! It was the “family secret” that he was Ogliegh Na Eirean (I think it’s this? Still trying to learn it) the Anti-Treaty IRA. Maybe they were Ashamed? I’m not sure? My Nanna was 5 weeks away from being born when he died, so she never really knew him as he wasn’t spoken about? They moved to Liverpool pretty much straight after he was killed. So now I’m really interested in trying to find out more about this time in Ireland, there are so many different books, Podcasts and Documentaries on the subject, it’s kinda overwhelming on choice. Can anyone maybe stear me in the right direction on day the best books to read, Movies or Documentaries? I’d be really really appreciative. Due to boring dumb Cancer sh!t I have a lot of spare time on my hands atm 😉 and trying to keep my mind occupied, you know the score. Anyway, I hope someone give give me a hand. Wear Suncream and stay safe ha. Cheers from Australia.
Ps. I know this is a very divisive and controversial topic but I’m trying to learn more about it so I’d like to get recommendations from everyone, both sides. I don’t think I’m too Naïve, and I’m not trying to be flippant or cause a shit show in the comments section, just trying to educate myself and hopefully my kids. So please don’t come at me! Haha. As an aside, my Nanna (Catholic) and my Grandad (Protestant) from Wales had to get married in a back vestibule of the church and many of my Nannas family refused to attend the wedding 😬 which I also only just found out about.

A united Ireland will come. Any patriots now should learn our native tongue and speak it to your children when they are young.
