Ritchies last gig with MK3.
April 7th, 1975.
They sound determined to play well for what they knew was the last time they would work with him.
Ritchie was unhappy with the Stormbringer record, but played the tour anyway.
Very professional guy.
David & Glenn sing well, Hughes was by now a cocaine addict which Ritchie knew about.
Paice is spectacular.
Jon is amazing.
Jon was right, Purple spat fire then.
Meanwhile, somewhere in Malibu, a young American guitarist called Tommy Bolin was working on the album which would become Teaser.
Roadie Nick Bell would eventually contact him with a view to his joining.
Ritchie praised Tommy in Guitar World in 1974 saying he was worth listening to.
It didn't end well of course, Purple fell apart in Liverpool while Rainbow were doing very well to an audience who ignored punk rock.
Inside a year Tommy Bolin would die of an overdose, and Glenn Hughes would spend fifteen years struggling with cocaine addiction.
Coverdale, Lord and Paice ended up in Whitesnake.

Deep Purple 1975 in Hamburg, kurz vor dem hier dokumentierten Gig, war mein erstes Live-Konzert überhaupt. Ich war nicht mal fünfzehn. Aber es war eine große Enttäuschung. Die Akustik in der Ernst-Merck-Halle war unterirdisch schlecht und DP meinten, sie müssten den Leuten 100.000 Watt auf die Ohren geben. Das war keine Musik, das war gesundheitsgefährdender Krach! Bei dieser Aufnahme aus Paris kann ich nun endlich hören, was damals nicht zu hören war, weil alle Instrumente in einem Brei aus Lärm untergingen. Und jetzt gefällt es mir, auch wenn Coverdale nicht an Ian Gillan herankommt.
