I'm completely self taught from when i first started three years ago. My friends say i play at an intermediate level but i don't know alot of the basics. I know about 20 chords and a couple barre chords that i can transition between mostly seamlessly. My friends also say how i stum is a little odd but that they like how it sounds. I do a sort of pick strum sorta thing and sometimes throw in a rock step on my left hand on the fretboard. I know i probably have very bad technique, but im having fun doing what i can. I know enough that I've written an original song at least.

I was as humbled going from woodwinds to keys as keys to guitar in re: relearning technique. I love technique day ("prog day"), especially since as an improv jazz player it gets old doing the same ole same ole...

Thank you. This helped me realize that I’m still very much a beginner, but I’m very much on the right track and accomplishing more than I thought I was. Been playing for 4 months on a new-Gibson Les Paul-Standard-1960..

Thats true that beginner finger pain was crazy. Felt like my fingertips would burst

I'm trying to acknowledge my growth while I simultaneously berate myself for not being great at Travis picking. What you said about the inherent self deprecation made me smile and think, just play a little more :)

I thought I'm a beginner, but I'm actually intermediate by this vid's definition
I have actually played guitar for a month only
I play for 2-4 hours a day and I take private lessons twice a week from a professional
I think this is the period where I can make the most progress, so I'm grinding hard at it

19 years of self taught playing songs I write, every time I discover a new technique or hear a style I've never heard before I'll incorporate it into my newest composition. That said, I'm perpetually on the cusp of being satisfied and nit-picking the technique because by the time I get something down there's another song I'm working on that's not how it sounds in my head yet. Gotta challenge yourself while constantly honing your skills. When you're uninspired try revamping old material to include counter-melodies, fills, double-stops, harmonics and whatever else you've learned since. It's not relevant how good you are, only that you're constantly improving. If you can pull that off you'll be surprised when you get positive feedback while being inwardly critical. The only beneficial comparative examination is "have I better served the song than before?"

Much love. Callus-ness is for fingertips not hearts.

1:43 I started learning along with two friends of mine during the pandemic, only I didn't quit. the hardest part is to convince yourself you're actually playing the guitar, and not "playing" with it.

I meet all the points of the intermediate level, but I'm sure it's still too early to classify myself as such.

I discovered your channel looking for information about playing with forearm or wrist because I have tendonitis due to a bad picking habit.

And my rhythm and coordination are far from perfect.

According to this video I am an advanced guitarist hahahaha I have always treated myself as intermediate for all that I continue to practice and learn.
