2022 Lexus LX600 vs 2003 Lexus LX470 // Baller Meets Beater

The 2022 Lexus LX 600 ($153,475 CAD as specced, ~$127,845 USD as specced) is up against its grandfather platform, the 2003 Lexus LX 470 ($17,500 CAD, ~$14,028 USD converted). With two full generations separating these luxury offroaders, will the value of the LX 470 be able to overshine the fresh tech and opulence of the new LX 600? The older model does have a trusty V8 2UZ-FE engine to rely on, but the new twin-turbo V6 is no slouch either with 409 horsepower. Thomas and James sort out which of these two Lexus’s they would take home. We hope you enjoy the episode! SUBSCRIBE!

As some have mentioned, the sub-zero temperatures caused a slip of the tongue. The Active Height Control suspension in the LX470 is hydraulic, not air. Forgive us, and enjoy!

I used to commute to college in a hand-me-down 2005 Lexus LX470 with 175k on the odometer. That thing still drove like new and was the most comfortable ride ever. I miss that vehicle

I bought my LX470 in 2019 for $8000CAD, it had 317k on it, it's now at 375k. I've taken it on adventures in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. It's never broken down or let me down. I even towed a 20 foot trailer with a sports car on it from Denver to Calgary.

Best vehicle I've ever owned. And camping out of it is amazing. The drop down tailgate just makes life so much better.

Before this I had a brand new Range Rover and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have done everything my 20 year old LX.

Can’t believe you guys failed to mention Lexus giving up the split tailgate. A HUGE miss for them an a big point for the 2003.

My father had a Lexus GX470 for quite a long time. He was born in a small Russian farmer village and eventually grinded his way into owning a business in the city. I've never seen a more perfect match between a person and a car

I love the way Thomas says “Lexus” in the beginning of the video, like “it’s not a toyota, it’s a ‘lexus’ everything about it is ‘Lexusy’” with a gentle softness, capturing the essence of Lexus

The thing that really speaks volumes about the 470 is it’s two decades old, it still has value and it’s worth driving all these years later.

The Lexus LS and LX series are so good, from the V8 to the driving feel there's nothing like a 2000s Lexus flagship

Always interesting to see what the technology on these older luxury car models is like

I love my vintage Lexus cars. Hands down best build quality of any of the 30 plus from multiple brands I have ever had. Folks say they don’t have a personality but they do. They are that friend who forgives you for being a mess. They’re the tireless moms and dads who are always there with a warm place to retreat to when you need it. They aren’t always the fastest or the prettiest but they really come through. Finally, they REWARD YOU for maintaining them with 30 plus years of service. What more can you ask for?

The Active Height Control suspension used in the 100-series, 200-series and the new 300-series is hydraulic (pneumatic). It's not air suspension like on a Range Rover. The adjustable hydraulic suspension is a lot more reliable than an air suspension. Some people choose to remove it because it gets in the way if you want to lift the car and put bigger tires on.

In 2018 I was in the market for a 4Runner. An 03’ 4Runner with decent mileage was about $14k-$15k. I bought an ‘06 Lexus GX470 with basically no miles for $10k.

There is nothing after perfection but imperfection. This is the case for all cars. Whenever they reach the top of their comfort and quality, the shortages will be after that. Just like a human being is born a small child, then reaches youth, then returns weak and old

Unfortunately, now we miss these wonderful and powerful models, and also for a very low price compared to the new ones

My lx470 just hit 360k and still runs fine with working ac. Want to go check out new LX but old one is still kicking.

My LX 470 is incredible. 246, 000 miles and still charging. True campion of reliability.

The LX470 and Land Cruiser 100 series are among the most reliable cars to ever have been made. My '99 LC has more than 500, 000 miles on it and hasn't had any major issues. I hope to be driving it for another 20 years!

My friend's '06 LX470 which he got at 183k miles, literally & i mean literally, not exaggerating at all, feels like just came off the showroom in terms of engine & transmission. Even the hydraulics work perfectly. The only things he changed were the bushes all around, and steering wheel leather and the notorious M&L speakers. The V8 sound is simply amazing.

I will never get tired of this channels content. My wife owns the 2023 LX600 (with the bench seat in the back). She has also owned a 2013 and 2018 LX 570. This LX600 is by far better than the other two and she loves it. The new version is way better than what was sold on this video, but having said that. I think the best take away is "it's for brand loyalists" (my wife is) and that holds true for all LX versions.
