What about insurance?
Who would be held responsible for an accident?

A. The car manufacturer, as the owner doesnt actually drive it anymore.
B. The software company, as it had bugs.
C. If the third party car happens to be of the same make, then would it a matter of conflict of interest, as the responsible party and the innocent party would be the same (with regard to damage to propert)

Yeah but then they’ll pull some scheme like they do now with Tesla’s. If you don’t pay your bill, they shut off the car and you can’t drive anywhere. They’ll make it so if you haven’t paid some type of bill, you can’t get a ride from either your own self driving car or uber self driving cars. Or if you’ve been arrested and let out on bail, you can’t access driving in a self driving car (again either yours or a car service’s).
However, they make so much money off a traffic and speeding tickets that I would imagine they would NOT want anything getting in the way of them and their income.

see but there is a problem with this. as of right now each individual is responsible for their respective crash unless struck by another of course but say if elon were to dominate 100% of the market and all cars were self driving, he may reduce deaths by even 99% but the 1% of deaths that still occurred he would be personally liable for and so even though one man can make a great deal of difference in the world it almost never comes without a cost and the cost almost always outweighs any good done. before while there were many deaths they were not on his hands and while he’s saved the masses, even one death from his cars could bankrupt him in a lawsuit and that death would weigh on his soul forever and potentially even land him in prison. consequences like these are the reason good men choose not to act when given the opportunity to make a difference. sure having the power to drastically reduce death also places upon you a responsibility to do so but why do good when one mistake has the power to strip you everything even your freedom? most men would choose to let life go on as it has, maintain their resources and freedom and deal with the consequences of their inaction in the afterlife if they believe in one and many don’t believe in one so they act only in what is in their best interest here and now

No special legislation to drop the number of vehicle deaths, except for seat belts, daytime running lights, air bags, anti-lock brakes, collision warning systems, and on and on to the tune of billions of dollars in cumulative cost of cars.

Wr already have self driving cars. They get stuck at intersections and don't know how to navigate construction Self driving cars are already PART of the problem budd. Not to mention how incredibly bad these vehicles are at vehicle type stuff. Like driving in the cold, or just through a PUDDLE!! Lol. I think we are a ways away from self driving cars being the answer
