The Basilica Cistern - The largest of several hundred ancient cisterns or reservoirs that lie beneath Istanbul (formerly Constantinople). Historical texts claim that it was built by 7,000 slaves and there is a specific weeping column that is said to have been built in honour of those that died in its construction it is about half way through the vid.
The cistern was used as part of a water filtration system.
There are two Medusa heads in the cistern, but the origin of the heads is still a mystery. Some speculate that they were placed upside down and sideways to negate the power of the Gorgon’s gaze .... You might recognize the cistern from the movie Inferno, based on the book by Dan Brown, or if you are a little older from the 1963 James Bond film, From Russia with Love.
Very cool ambience with the dimmed lights and some erie background music ...
