That was a very thorough clean, but I have never had a crank start creaking because it was dirty. Its usually a worn BB or occasionally something a bit loose.

Legend says its still creaking to this day

Creaking is only the beginning FSA SLK cranks, just wait until the carbon comes apart from the alloy like mine did. Then you can clean and regrease all you want, but it won't help.

I'm resting up after I broke my clavicle in four places which is now being held together with 15 bolts, four broken ribs and a fractured pelvis. I managed to this by failing to miss a runner while cycling downhill. The silly minx is okay, scratches and bruising. This was so satisfying I'm already looking forward in getting back out on my bike.

Cleaning is just one step to solve the problem, sometimes it works, something it doesn't.

Good presentations without music background, tools make good sounds.

Your crank worth more than my whole bike.😅

Another issue you may be having is that both cranks were oriented the same direction

there was clearly a lack of ugga dugga’s when torquing those chain ring bolts

I've had so many things creak over time (that I thought were the crankset). Seatpost, pedals, bottom bracket, stem, cracked frame... and my all time favorite (the one that took me the longest to find) spokes rubbing.

I once had a bb creaking because it got loose in the frame. Not the bb itself, but the shell. The shell had unbonded from the carbon. Shop couldnt help me ofc, but Trek gave me a brand new bike.

Cleaning is good. Sometimes you need to face the fact that bottom bracket bearings get old and need replacing. I have the same set up. Cleaning didn’t work. Installing new NSK 6806 bearings solved my creaking BB30 bottom bracket beautifully. The old bearings clearly showed wear on the edge of the inner race which contributed to the creak.

Maintenance and cleaning is very important 🤨🤙🤙🤙

Mine was creaking by a slight movement between carbon and aluminium insert.
I resolve the noise by piercing a hole in the 2 matters, threading and screwing a no head screw

I wouldn’t use any thread lock on them crank spider bolts, it’ll only end in tears when you have to drill them out ! Just make sure they’re a good 12 NM and carry a faithful 5mm Allen key with you at all times, a mtbers best friend !!!

Before you took it apart, I would have liked to hear the creaky crank.

The interface between the spindle and the crank spider can also creak; looking at you Shimano GRX crank set. :)

Man I always back bolts before driving them so I would never use an electric screwdriver or impact for that... Prolly use the torque wrench too

How can you tell if the creaking noise is coming from the crankset itself?
