I usually like about 94% of the books I read. Only about 6% are books I didn’t enjoy. If I do a review I try to clump some of them together, so as not to give too much negative attention to a book. And if it’s a small time or in the author, I just don’t do a review at all if it’s negative, because I don’t want to give an author bad press. But since I enjoy almost all the books I read it’s pretty easy anyway. The main goal of my channel is to hype up the books that I liked, to get other people to read them so I can talk with them about it.

A guy at work recommended I read The Shining (this was before Kubrick ever heard of it) but with only 50 pages left I asked the guy does this and this happen and he said I thought you hadn't finished it yet. Just now I rewatched Brian's video of reading The Shining on his front porch with his next door neighbor lady passed out drunk in her front yard (just to kill time till this morning's video posted---yes, that's a Durfee classic where he couldn't stand seeing her out of the corner of his eye faceplanted in the grass so he backed his truck down his driveway far enough so she was no longer visible and in that video Brian rated The Shining 6.5 but since I didn't even have to finish reading it to know how it ended my rating was considerably lower than Brian's) and I definitely agree with everything in this new video today: his rating system and especially his love of reading, that's why I read too and admire people who read, but nine tenths of the world's population nowadays don't read books because it requires an attention span, just like it takes an attention span to write run on sentences but don't take my word for it, just pick up any book by Marcel Proust and revel in sentences that last two or three pages, a modern master even if he did go to that great bookmark in the sky 100 years ago. I do like your approach. Several Booktubers have turned me off by harshly criticizing some of my favorite authors and even the fans who enjoy them. Someone acting like their opinion trumps mine & they are on a higher level of intelligence & wisdom...not cool. Love your videos & can't wait to tackle both of your books. It is indeed the best rating system. I feel the same way and I hate that sites like GoodReads only give you five stars to work with. To me, 2 stars is more like a 7/10. I enjoy almost all the books I read, but if I don't, I don't speak negatively of it. I live your channel because did your positivity, but also because of the diversity of your reading. You have introduced me to many authors I may never have otherwise known about. Thanks 👍

Maybe an unpopular opinion, I think reviewing bad books or even books you don't like is really important and can be more educational (especially to up and coming writers) and still be very entertaining.

Maybe you can make a provisional rating of eleven, for when you find something so amazing, thoughtful and transcendental that clearly goes beyond those books you've already given a ten to. Whatever, you do you - I come for the talk, not the number.
