My mother and cousin yelled at me for not wanting to spend my HONEYMOON with them. This is so refreshing. Thank you Jaime for showing toxicity not just in romantic relationships but also in familial relationships

Fr nobody ever celebrated my bday but was expected to be there for theirs. The feeling of putting my foot down is exhilarating... Let them know I wasn't coming around anymore because of that and I'm working on healing childhood trauma. Very toxic individuals.. they never saw it coming 😂

I love how you use Qveen Herby lyrics. She is an amazing artist. Her songs are super empowering and helped me through a debilitating depression!

People walk around thinking parents are excluded. More times than not, your parent(s) caused the most toxicity and/or disfunction in your life. I recently have forgiven yet also decided to protect my peace (boundaries). A hard realization but much needed.

I moved to Austin, TX from New Mexico to get away from parents right when I turned 18. I stopped going home for holidays when I was 21. I went home with my boyfriend after dating for 3 years when I was 24 and he said it was so weird how I had a completely different personality when I was home. I was irritable, angry, sad, didn't like talking, wouldn't leave my room, etc. When I'm out and about with my friends after moving to Dallas, who are my biggest support system (I have no idea what I would do without them), I'm happy, always wanting to party/hangout, laughing, relaxed, etc. My boyfriend met me in the latter personality. My boyfriend and i are talking about a wedding. And sometimes I wish I didn't have to invite my parents because I know that they'll ruin it. But if I didn't invite them it would ruin the relationship completely.

Grandma* slaps me
Me* i dont go to grandmas now
Grandma* aww, but your little cousin will miss you at Christmas!
Me* well i guess its a shame her mom wont bring her by our house later, but I understand the drive is an inconvenience, since i was expected to drive it. Have a good day ✌️

if your mom was good to you, i understand everything else but you should make effort to visit her❤not everything's supposed to please us, we need to do the right things sometimes for our sake, and sometime for the sake of other people, just like eating veggies even as an adult
